Carlsbad Woman Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run

Carlsbad bartender Jessica Lynn Hawk, 23, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of the hit-and-run death of 37-year-old Oceanside resident William Hansen. Hansen, whose car had run out of gas was apparently standing next to the car filling the tank when he was hit and dragged to his death.

Hansen was struck by a vehicle on state Route 78 about 8 p.m. Friday [November 9, 2007] in Vista. Authorities said he was possibly hit after getting out of a car on the right shoulder. He was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m. . . Hawk was taken into custody after officers received a tip about a silver Honda Civic with damage to its right front fender, side window and mirror. Officers said the damage matched vehicle parts left at the crash site

According to NBC San Diego Hawk was “under the was under the influence of alcohol and had her 3-year-old son in the car, the CHP said.”

Hawk was charged with felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment.

My heart does go out to the victims family and to Jessica, I’m sorry girl that this incident had to occur…I know what how it is to get a DUI and when a person gets one… they got one because they weren’t in the right mind and I knowing you as a person an freind i know those were not your intentions…The only thing we can do is pray and hope for a brighter day….jc
