On the weekend of September 19 – 21, 2014 Carlsbad will be host of the 11th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival<\/a><\/strong>. And when we say music, we mean capital “M” Music. As they say this is “adventurous music by the beach” for sure.
\nThis year’s run will include the music of David Lang<\/strong>, Dawn of Midi<\/strong>, Steven Schick<\/strong> conducts Renga<\/strong>, Wu Man<\/strong> and Son de San Diego<\/strong>, Art of Elan<\/strong> with Susan Narucki<\/strong>, Sacra\/Profana<\/strong>, USC Thornton Edge<\/strong>, Donald Crockett<\/strong>, Sean Friar<\/strong>, Matt McBane<\/strong>, Trouble in the Wind<\/strong>, The Red Fox Tails<\/strong>, and more. <\/p>\n

The Festival will include ticketed Main Stage Concerts all three days, a free Village Walk on Saturday, September 20, and free concerts in Magee Park on Sunday, September 21. All events are curated by Festival Founder and Director, Matt McBane<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

WHAT<\/strong>: 11th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival<\/p>\n

WHERE<\/strong>: Locations throughout the Village of Carlsbad<\/p>\n

WHEN<\/strong>: Friday\u00ad – Sunday, September 19 -\u00ad 21, 2014<\/p>\n

PRICING<\/strong>: $95 Three Day Festival Passes, Single Tickets $15 \u00ad $20, and dozens of free events. <\/p>\n

LISTING: The Carlsbad Music Festival is an annual festival of \u201cadventurous music by the beach\u201d that features over 50 performances in 3 days in the seaside Village of Carlsbad. Running from Friday\u00ad – Sunday, September 19 – \u00ad21, 2014, the Festival will include ticketed MainStage Concerts all 3 days, a free Village Walk on Saturday, and free Concerts in the Park in Magee Park on Sunday. All events are curated by Festival Founder and Director, Matt McBane<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Highlights of this year\u2019s ticketed MainStage Concerts include<\/strong>:
\nPulitzer \u00adprize winning composer and Bang on a Can co-\u00adfounder, David Lang will be in residence and his music will be performed throughout the Festival. The New Yorker states, \u201cLang, once a post minimalist infant terrible, has solidified his standing as an American master,\u201d and CMF is proud to be presenting 3 US premieres of his work. Brooklyn based piano trio Dawn of Midi will perform their genre\u00ad-defying album \u201cDysnomia.\u201d Steven Schick will conduct Renga, the new San Diego\u00ad based chamber orchestra he confounded, in the US premiere of David<\/p>\n

Lang\u2019s \u201cdarker\u201d an hour\u00ad-long piece for 12 solo strings. Art of Elan will be joined by soprano Susan Narucki for a concert of music by David Lang, his influences and his students, including the US premiere of \u201cark luggage\u201d for soprano and string quartet. Sacra\/Profana will give a performance of new music for choir including a world premiere by Festival Director Matt McBane and music by David Lang. USC Thornton Edge led by Donald Crockett will give a concert of new music for chamber orchestra by composers Crockett, Andrew Norman, Ted Hearne, and Sean Friar.<\/p>\n

Highlights of this year\u2019s FREE Concerts include<\/strong>:
\nCinematic tales by Carlsbad\u00ad based indie-\u00adAmericana band Trouble in the Wind, daring free jazz by the Kuhn\/Motl\/Hubbard Trio, live scores to silent films by madcap multi\u00adinstrumentalist Scott Paulson, found sound electro pop by Opus Orange, up and coming Carlsbad rockers Paper Days, site\u00adspecific modern dance by PGK Dance Project, the modern surf guitar meets Jazz stylings of The Red Fox Tails, electronic composition meets surf band Swarmius, and original compositions for solo violin by Festival Director Matt McBane.<\/p>\n

\nCarlsbad Music Festival is a 501(c)(3) organization that aims to engage and inspire local, national, and international communities of composers, performers, creators, and concertgoers through world\u00adclass performances of adventurous music. CMF is committed to premiering new works, programming fresh, compelling music, and providing professional opportunities for established and emerging performers. Founded in 2004 by Matt McBane, CMF strives to enhance Carlsbad, California as a cultural center, engaging diverse audiences and providing wide accessibility by integrating events within community spaces.
