A man named <strong>John Corcoran<\/strong> apparently taught high school in Oceanside for 17 years without being able to read or write. This explains more than we&#8217;d like to admit. This report from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/abclocal.go.com\/kfsn\/story?section=news\/state&amp;id=5943077\" target=\"_blank\">ABC 30<\/a><\/strong> in Fresno, California tells Cocoran&#8217;s story and how he finally learned to read with the help of a tutor at the <strong>Carlsbad Library<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After a year he was reading and writing at a sixth grade level. Now Corcoran has become a literacy advocate with his <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.johncorcoranfoundation.com\/pages\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">own foundation<\/a><\/strong>. In fact, he was even appointed to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nifl.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Institute for Literacy<\/a><\/strong> by <strong>President George Bush<\/strong> (which figures). Corcoran says, &#8220;We need to teach our kids to read and write.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yes, Mr. Corcoran.
