{"id":2047,"date":"2008-03-03T10:11:47","date_gmt":"2008-03-03T17:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=2047"},"modified":"2008-03-03T10:11:56","modified_gmt":"2008-03-03T17:11:56","slug":"regional-water-board-questions-desal-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=2047","title":{"rendered":"Regional Water Board Questions Desal Plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/description.jpg\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/description.jpg','popup','width=448,height=260,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/description-tm.jpg\" height=\"249\" width=\"430\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Description\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More pleasant hurdles for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.poseidonresources.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Poseidon Resources<\/a><\/strong> and the proposed <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?s=desalination\" target=\"_blank\">desalination plant<\/a><\/strong> from the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nctimes.com\/articles\/2008\/03\/03\/news\/coastal\/20_45_843_2_08.txt\" target=\"_blank\">North County Times<\/a><\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a recent letter, the control board said it wanted more information about how the plant would minimize harm to fish and the environment &#8212;- 21 months after the board awarded the plant a discharge permit.<\/p>\n<p>In November, the California Coastal Commission awarded the plant a permit, on the condition that its backers, Poseidon Resources Inc., answer more questions about the same subjects.<\/p>\n<p>Environmental groups last week immediately said the control board&#8217;s action proved environmental worries were valid, and that agencies were moving too quickly to conditionally approve the plant.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s absurd to us that any agency could pre-approve a project of this magnitude without having this information already tied down,&#8221; said Marco Gonzalez, an environmental lawyer active in the Surfrider Foundation, which has sued to overturn the commission&#8217;s permit approval.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Seems like none of the agencies wanted to be the one to put their foot down.
