The lawsuit centered about a baseball rivalry fight on July 3, 2006 at Carlsbad&#8217;s <strong>Grand Avenue Bar &amp; Grill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>No criminal charges were filed in the case, but Melendez sued for damages in Vista Superior Court \u2013 for injuring his hand when he punched Sanborn. . . .\u201cHe grabbed me and picked me up,\u201d he told jurors. \u201cI really thought he was going to body-slam me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanborn said Melendez challenged him to a fight, then sucker-punched him. According to court records, Sanborn&#8217;s attorneys argued that Melendez \u201cconsented\u201d to the fight, which lasted a few seconds, ending when Melendez punched Sanborn.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While both men claim slightly different versions of the story it seems that the jury agreed with Melendez&#8217;s version.
