The July 25, 2008 Jazz In The Park<\/a><\/strong> was cancelled<\/strong> today by the San Diego County Department of Health<\/a><\/strong> after a dead bird found in the park tested positive for West Nile Virus<\/strong>. “This is the 122nd bird found with WNV this year in San Diego County. The concert cancellation is purely precautionary. Poinsettia Park remains open to the public.”<\/p>\n

“With such short notice of this situation and because the concert occurs at a time when mosquitoes are most prevalent in the park, we felt it was in the best interest of the community to cancel tonight’s concert. This gives the City—and the public—adequate time to take appropriate precautions for the remaining 2008 TGIF concerts,” said Jazz in the Parks Project Manager Peter Gordon<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nThe California Department of Health Services<\/strong> advises the public to take the following precautions:<\/p>\n

Avoid spending time outside when mosquitoes are most active, especially at dawn and the first two hours after sunset.<\/p>\n

• When outdoors, wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts.
\n• Apply insect repellant containing DEET, according to label instructions.
\n• Make sure that doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. Replace or repair screens with tears or holes.
\n• Eliminate all sources of standing water, which support mosquito breeding.
\n• Contact a local mosquito or vector control agency if there is a significant mosquito problem where you live or work.<\/p>\n
