After a few words from Library Director Heather Pizzuto<\/strong> and comments from members of the City Council, at about 10:30 AM on August 23, 2008 Mayor Pro Tem Ann Kulchin<\/strong> cut the ribbon to officially open Carlsbad City Library’s newest addition: The Learning Center<\/a><\/strong> at 3368 Eureka Place<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Img<\/a>Close to 200 people were on hand for the celebration and the tour of the facilities that followed.<\/p>\n

The Library Learning Center is both the new home of the Centro de Información and the Adult Learning Program, as well as a warm, comfortable community gathering place where life-long learning is supported for all ages.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Learning Center will provide public computer and Internet access, computer classes for adults and students, literacy tutoring for adults, Homework assistance for students, study rooms, space for special events and a Spanish, English and bilingual library collection including books, audiobooks, DVDs and CDs for people of all ages.<\/p>\n

Everyone involved with this project (The City of Carlsbad Staff,<\/strong> The Library Board of Trustees<\/strong>, The Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation<\/strong>, Friends of the Carlsbad Library<\/strong>, Manuel Oncina Architects, Inc<\/a><\/strong>, and Telacu Construction<\/a><\/strong>) should be extremely proud. The building is attractively designed on the outside and more importantly on the inside.<\/p>\n

\nWhen you think of how many people have to agree to get a public building completed, we think this one turned out pretty well.<\/p>\n

\nThere’s nothing like a puppet welcome to entertain the kids and frighten the toddlers.<\/p>\n

\nComputers and Internet access for the adults.<\/p>\n

\nThe bilingual library and great kids book section.<\/p>\n

\nComputer stations for the kids cleverly named after Central American countries.<\/p>\n

\nThe well equipped computer learning classroom upstairs. We’re kind of wondering where all the Macs are? Is this a Windows only facility?<\/p>\n
