{"id":3212,"date":"2008-09-05T19:54:24","date_gmt":"2008-09-06T02:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=3212"},"modified":"2008-09-05T20:49:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-06T03:49:00","slug":"dump-trucks-spills-asphalt-stalls-traffic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=3212","title":{"rendered":"Dump Trucks Spills Asphalt, Stalls Traffic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/asphalt.jpg\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/asphalt.jpg','popup','width=800,height=408,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/asphalt-tm.jpg\" height=\"219\" width=\"430\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Asphalt\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cleanup crews were still working on the shoulder of the north-bound lanes of Interstate 5 just north of La Costa Avenue this evening after a dump truck loaded with asphalt careened off the road this morning at 1 AM dropping 19 tons of asphalt onto the south bank of the Batiquitos Lagoon, according to a post on <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/weblog.signonsandiego.com\/news\/breaking\/2008\/09\/traffic_still_slow_near_spill.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sign On San Diego<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>The spill had traffic backed up this morning all the way down to 5\/805 split.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Robin Lewis<\/strong>, a <strong>California Department of Fish and Game<\/strong> scientist who specializes in spills, said crews dug as much of the hardened asphalt as they could from lagoon shore until the tide came up about 1 p.m. . . . &#8220;Right now it&#8217;s all under water,&#8221; Lewis said in mid-afternoon.
