Weird, huh?<\/p>\n<p>And the third concert at <strong>The Loft<\/strong> on the campus of UCSD September 25, 2008 is only open to UCSD students. Seems like organizers really should call this the 71% Carlsbad Music Festival.<\/p>\n<p>For those who aren&#8217;t interested in making the trek to LA or currently students at UCSD the festival actually begins in Carlsbad on Monday September 22, 2008 at the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newvillagearts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Village Arts Theatre<\/a><\/strong> with <strong>Build<\/strong>, <strong>Tristan Perich<\/strong>, and <strong>Favian Svensson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The musicians of the Carlsbad Music Festival will perform a split set of music by composers-in-residence, Tristan Perich and Fabian Svensson. Build, led by composer\/violinist Matt McBane, performs a full set of original music featuring music from their recent release self-titled debut album. This marks festival&#8217;s first collaboration with New Village Arts Theatre in their Carlsbad Village black box theater. Seating is limited.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Seeing as this is music we&#8217;re not familiar with we may have to go check it out. This is the first performance ever in this new venue and is part of opening night celebrations that are open only to UCSD students.<br \/>\nThis is part of an ongoing relationship with ArtPower! at UCSD that also includes the co-commission of Fabian Svensson&#8217;s new piece for the Calder Quartet. Svensson was chosen for this commission amongst 100 highly qualified applicants from around the world. He makes no motion without motivation, describes the music with his body, and yet does not distract from the aural experience. Partch also specializes in the music of California experimental composer Lou Harisson, performing under the name Just Strings.
