Legendary keyboardist George Duke<\/a><\/strong> will be playing a benefit performance for The Bob Moog Foundation<\/strong> at the Museum of Making Music<\/a><\/strong> in Carlsbadistan<\/em> on Friday, November 6, 2009.<\/p>\n

George’s prolific career as a pianist, synth pioneer, composer and Grammy award-winning producer has earned him a place of honor in the world of jazz, funk, pop and R&B. He has worked with a who’s who of artists, including: Jean-Luc Ponty, Cannonball Adderly, Nancy Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Zappa, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Sonny Rollins, Diane Reeves<\/strong>, and many others. His production credits span decades of top artists and performers. Today, the unstoppable Duke continues to produce, write and perform. His 2008 album, Dukey Treats<\/em><\/strong>, was released on the Heads Up<\/strong> label.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

CARLSBAD, CA\u2014On Friday, November 6, 2009 at 7 PM, George Duke\u2014whose very
\nname is synonymous with funk, R&B, pop, soul and jazz and who is heralded as
\na world class keyboardist, synthesizer pioneer, composer and Grammy
\naward-winning producer\u2014will perform an intimate concert with his quartet at
\nthe Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California.<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the concert directly benefit The Bob Moog Foundation and the
\nMuseum of Making Music, two organizations whose sympathetic missions and
\nlike-mindedness have kindled the exhibition, Waves of Inspiration: The
\nLegacy of Moog, a first-ever look at the life and work of synthesizer
\ninnovator, Dr. Robert Moog. In addition to the proceeds from the concert,
\nseveral businesses, including Moog Music Inc., have donated instruments and
\nitems that will be auctioned off to raise additional funds for the two
\norganizations. <\/p>\n

Tickets to the concert are $75 for the general public and $65 for museum
\nmembers. Optionally, for $100 guests can enjoy both the concert event AND a
\nspecial VIP after-party reception with George Duke that will take place
\nfollowing his performance. In addition, ticket holders will automatically
\nbe entered into an opportunity drawing to win an autographed Moog Little
\nPhatty synthesizer. Attendance is limited.<\/p>\n

GEORGE DUKE<\/p>\n

George Duke was born in San Rafael, California, and reared in Marin City, a
\nworking class section of Marin County. When he was just four years old, his
\nmother took him to see Duke Ellington in concert. “I don’t remember it too
\nwell,” says George, “but my mother told me I went crazy. I ran around saying
\n‘Get me a piano, get me a piano!'”<\/p>\n

From then on, George’s prolific career as a pianist, synth pioneer, composer
\nand Grammy award-winning producer has earned him a place of honor in the

Waves of Inspiration: The Legacy of Bob Moog<\/p>\n

From August 29, 2009 through April 30, 2010, Waves of Inspiration: The
\nLegacy of Bob Moog highlights the career of Bob Moog and the impact that he
\nhad on the world of music, features rare vintage synthesizers and other
\nrelated Moog instruments and memorabilia from the Bob Moog Archives and from
\nvarious private collections. A custom video presentation created by Moog
\nhistorian and exhibit consultant Brian Kehew forms a central part of the
\nexhibit. The exhibit explores the numerous musicians, engineers and
\ncolleagues who played a vital role in the evolution of the Moog sound and
\nthe relationship between and the inventor\/toolmaker and the musician, as
\nwell as the genesis of a variety of musical interfaces.<\/p>\n

The Bob Moog Foundation<\/p>\n

The Bob Moog Foundation is a non-profit organization founded upon Moog’s
\npassing in August 2005. The mission of the foundation is to educate and
\ninspire children and adults through the power and possibilities of
\nelectronic music and through the intersection of science, music and
\ninnovation. The foundation has three main projects: preserving and
\nprotecting Bob Moog’s archives, creating a Student Outreach Program that
\nbrings electronic music into the schools, and its hallmark project, the
\ncreation of a Moogseum in Asheville, NC, for which it was recently awarded a
\n$600,000 lead grant by the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority.
