We need a public pool, a proper skatepark, and a new high school. But it is crazy how many people seem to get in the way.<\/p>\n<p>Take the new $100 million high school planned for the corner of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;q=College+Ave.+and+Cannon+Road,+carlsbad,+CA&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;gl=us&amp;ei=LF_aSoecFd_h8AbKvc23BQ&amp;ved=0CBEQ8gEwAA&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=College+Blvd+&amp;z=16\" target=\"_blank\">College and Cannon Road<\/a><\/strong> for instance: according to a <strong>Bruce Lieberman<\/strong> story in the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www3.signonsandiego.com\/stories\/2009\/oct\/17\/district-settles-2-3-lawsuits\/?northcounty&amp;zIndex=184255\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Union-Tribune<\/a><\/em><\/strong> The Carlsbad Unified School District just settled two lawsuit against the school. One with the City of Carlsbad. Yes, the City had sued the school district over &#8220;traffic issues associated with the school.&#8221; Among other things the school district has agreed to &#8220;dedicate a right of way&#8221; for the possible extension of Cannon Road and to pay the City $302,000 for improvements to the intersection of El Camino Real and College Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>In the suit filed by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.preservecalavera.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Preserve Calavera<\/a><\/strong> the district has agreed to limit the number of parking spaces to fewer than 800, &#8220;maximize use of native plants,&#8221; and to allow Preserve Calavera to make a presentation to school trustees regarding &#8220;teaching gardens.&#8221; Yes, people really sue for this sort of thing.<\/p>\n<p>And there&#8217;s one more:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A lawsuit by developer Bentley-Wing Properties and Rancho Carlsbad, a nearby homeowners association, claims that the environmental report doesn&#8217;t adequately address the high school&#8217;s effect on traffic. That suit is not resolved, but school administrators said they were confident it will be settled soon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>All this so the kids of <em>Carlsbadistan<\/em> can go to school without having to sit in each other laps.
