\"Prs<\/a>Carlsbadistan’s<\/em> Pacific Ridge School<\/a><\/strong> received much media attention<\/a><\/strong> last June when their students were quarantined in China for the H1N1 flu. Earlier this month, however, 18 of the school’s students were recognized for something a less viral.<\/p>\n

The Pacific Ridge group was awarded the “Best Small School Delegation” award at the 2009 Model United Nations (MUN) Conference at Stanford University<\/a><\/strong>. They also took home 12 individual awards from the international conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely proud of every student that attended this year\u2019s Stanford MUN Conference,\u201d said Scott Silk and Liz Grossman, faculty advisors from Pacific Ridge School. \u201cThe award for \u2018Best Small School Delegation\u2019 was the result of our students being well prepared, demonstrating effective listening skills, and offering well developed resolutions to the conflicts presented.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It nice of these students to remind the rest of the world that Carlsbadistan<\/em> has more to offer than simply surfers and septuagenarians.<\/p>\n

\nPacific Ridge Upper School Students Earn \u201cBest Small School Delegation\u201d Award at 2009 Stanford Model United Nations Conference<\/p>\n

Students Advance Understanding of Politics and International Affairs; Take Home an Additional 12 Individual Delegate Awards<\/p>\n

CARLSBAD, Calif. \u2013 November 18, 2009 \u2013 More than 500 students from all over the world assembled from November 6-8, for the 2009 Model United Nations (MUN) Conference at Stanford University. Staffed by more than 80 Stanford students, the Conference hosted 22 different high school student committees that spent the weekend conversing on conflicts, events and principal actors of the international arena. 18 students, accompanied by two faculty advisors, traveled to Stanford this year to represent Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely proud of every student that attended this year\u2019s Stanford MUN Conference,\u201d said Scott Silk and Liz Grossman, faculty advisors from Pacific Ridge School. \u201cThe award for \u2018Best Small School Delegation\u2019 was the result of our students being well prepared, demonstrating effective listening skills, and offering well developed resolutions to the conflicts presented.\u201d<\/p>\n

To prepare for the conference, students researched an assigned country and developed a position paper on each of the topics assigned to their committees. The conference\u2019s closing ceremonies included the presentation of awards to the highest-scoring individuals and delegations. In addition to earning the \u201cBest Small School Delegation\u201d award, 12 individual delegate awards were presented to Pacific Ridge School students, including:<\/p>\n
