{"id":829,"date":"2007-08-14T08:59:35","date_gmt":"2007-08-14T15:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=829"},"modified":"2007-08-14T08:59:43","modified_gmt":"2007-08-14T15:59:43","slug":"carlsbad-lagoons-outlaw-boaters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=829","title":{"rendered":"Carlsbad Lagoon&#8217;s Outlaw Boaters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/lagoonmap.jpg\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/lagoonmap.jpg','popup','width=600,height=464,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/lagoonmap-tm.jpg\" height=\"332\" width=\"430\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Lagoonmap\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We received an email recently saying that the <strong>Agua Hedionda Lagoon<\/strong> is now &#8220;a death trap for kayakers, sailors, paddle boarders.&#8221; According to this source, the buoys that formerly separated the &#8220;passive use area&#8221; from the &#8220;powerboat area&#8221; near the Bayshore Drive public access walkway have gone missing and powerboats are now using the entire back end of the lagoon (in clear violation of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlsbadca.gov\/parks\/lagoon3.html\" target=\"_blank\">lagoon regulations<\/a><\/strong>), leaving little or no space for human propelled water craft. The email continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Last week a <strong>No Fear<\/strong> helicopter filming  a wake boarder and another boat that was filming too, ran amuck using every space off the lagoon for over an hour. They we&#8217;re going all the way to the back of the lagoon almost capsizing a children&#8217;s kayaking class that was in the passive area. . . The police we&#8217;re called and did nothing. . . The police have been called to put up the buoys again to protect the area and they have done nothing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sounds like the City of Carlsbad needs to step up and get the Police Department out to do some regulating.
