There have also been complaints about RV owners spreading out and blocking the sidewalk, a busy location for walkers and joggers.

The City Council has explored many options to limit the parking of such large vehicles on the coast highway and, on June 15, 2010, directed staff to develop an ordinance that would limit oversized vehicles during the busy summer months just on this stretch of the boulevard.

Carlsbad Police Lt. Marc Reno said the Police Department wanted the restrictions to be clearly understandable.

“From a law-enforcement standpoint, we wanted to make it clear to the public what they could do, and make sure the law was enforceable,” Reno said.

The new limits do not apply to vehicles parked south of Tamarack avenue on Carlsbad Boulevard, another popular spot.

The new restrictions do not alter other parking time limits on Carlsbad Boulevard. Vehicles are prohibited from parking between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., or between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. daily, depending on location. Those restrictions remain in effect.

Scenes like this will be a thing of the past this summer thanks to the Carlsbadistan City Council.
