\nKids\u2019 races kick off weekend with Saturday\u2019s Junior Carlsbad; Legendary \u2018Party by the Sea\u2019 celebrates 26th anniversary<\/p>\n

What:
\nThe Carlsbad 5000 \u2013 Known as the \u2018World\u2019s Fastest 5K\u2019 as the site of 16 world records and 11 American records. Scenic ocean views and a post-race beer garden allow participants to enjoy the famous \u2018Party by the Sea\u2019 and celebrate a local tradition that has been a part of Carlsbad for 26 years.<\/p>\n

Junior Carlsbad \u2013 More than 2,000 mini-athletes will toe the starting line and celebrate a champions finish with age-appropriate distances for even the littlest racers. Each child receives a finishers medal, t-shirt and goodie bag. Junior Carlsbad was recently named \u201cYouth Event of the Year\u201d by Running USA.<\/p>\n

Why:
\n\u00b7 The 26th running of the Carlsbad 5000 annually attracts amateur, competitive and professional runners from around the world.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 It is the only road race from a commonly run distance in the world that is home to the world records and its home country records for both genders.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Race day begins at 7:05am with the Masters Men 40 and over, the first of nine races that will take place throughout the morning. The main event, featuring the world\u2019s fastest professional athletes, begins at 12:15pm.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Registration for all of the races on the Carlsbad schedule is still available. In addition to a New Balance tech-t and two free beers at the finish line, each participant will receive a free ticket to a San Diego Padres home game in April.<\/p>\n
