Tamarack Beach Resort Robber Gets 17 Years

Brian Lefler the 30-year-old man who punched 67-year-old desk clerk Barbara Novelich while robbing the Tamarack Beach Resort was sentenced to 17 years in prison for Novelich’s death, according to a story in the North County Times.

Lefler was on probation for auto theft and burglary when he punched the victim in the face while robbing the Tamarack Beach Resort in Carlsbad about 4:10 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2008, according to the Carlsbad Police Department. . . Novelich was treated at a local hospital for three facial fractures, but was not admitted. She was found dead on her houseboat in Oceanside the next day from acute cardiac complications stemming from her facial injuries, said Deputy District Attorney Summer Stephan.

Nice to know Lefler will be away for a while.

Tamarack Beach Resort Robber Charged

Brian Lefler, the 30-year-old man who punched Tamarack Beach Resort’s night desk worker Barbara Novelich during a robbery on November 16, 2008, is now being charged with the woman’s death, kidnapping, and false imprisonment among other charges, according to a story on 760KFMB.com.

Stephan alleges that Lefler pushed the victim to the ground and pulled her under a desk, demanding to know the location of the safe. . . Lefler allegedly took $300, demanded the victim’s car keys and got away in her car. . . Novelich was treated at a local hospital for three facial fractures, but was not admitted. She was found dead on her houseboat in Oceanside the next day from acute cardiac complications stemming from her facial injuries, Stephan said. . . Vista Judge Harry Elias ruled after an all-day preliminary hearing that sufficient evidence was presented to order Lefler to stand trial on charges of murder, kidnapping for robbery, robbery, elder abuse and false imprisonment of an elder.

Lefler faces 25 years to life if convicted.

Tamarack Beach Resort Robbery Victim Dies

NovelichBarbara Novelich, 67, the Tamarack Beach Resort employee who was assaulted and had her car stolen during a robbery at the hotel early on the morning of November 16, 2008, was found dead Monday on the boat that was her home, according to a story in the North County Times.

On Monday at about 11 a.m., a friend checking on Barbara Novelich found her dead on a bed on the small sailboat where she had lived alone for a few years, according to the friend, 47-year-old Michelle Gill. . . It was unclear Tuesday whether Novelich died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the robbery.

Our thoughts are with Novelich’s family and friends.

Tamarack Beach Resort Robbed

Img-Home-FrontToday, at 4:10 AM a white man in his early 20s, wearing shorts and a dark T-shirt robbed the Tamarack Beach Resort, punched a women in the face, and fled in her car according to a story on 10 News.com.

The woman was in the back office of the Tamarack Beach Resort at 3200 Carlsbad Blvd. at about 4:10 a.m. when she heard the robber come into the room, Lt. Jay Eppel said. . . . When the victim, in her 60s, turned in the direction of the noise, the robber punched her in the face and forced her to the floor, Eppel said.

The man took cash and fled in the woman’s 1998 Saturn SLR2 plate number 4BPV789.

Tamarack Beach Resort Assault Suspect Arrested

On Thursday November 20, 2008 Brian Lefler, 29, was arrested in Oceanside, California after a “long foot chase” according to a story on 10News.com. Leifler was arrested for allegedly punching Barbara Novelich of Oceanside in the face and forcing her to the ground while robbing the Tamarack Beach Resort in Carlsbad early Sunday morning.
