Carlsbad Reads Together is modeled on national reading programs designed to bring community members together and engage them in discussion about the same book at the same time. Carlsbad Reads Together is sponsored by Friends of the Carlsbad Library.

The first novel in Alexander McCall Smith’s The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series tells the story of the clever and engaging detective Precious Ramotse, who is drawn to her profession to “help people with the problems in their lives.” A film adaptation, directed by Anthony Minghella (The English Patient, Cold Mountain), and produced by the Weinstein Company, is currently in production in Africa.
