But thankfully, that is against the law and the City of Carlsbad is sending volunteers out with reminder notices to make sure everyone picks up after themselves.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Under city laws, trash carts may be put out on the street between 6 p.m. the day before collection and 6 a.m. the day of collection. They must be removed no later than midnight the day of collection. . . \u201cResidents have done a great job making the switch to the new trash service,\u201d said <strong>Craig Schmollinger<\/strong>, management analyst for the city\u2019s Utilities Department. \u201cThe goal of this effort is to give a friendly reminder to residents about the need to take their carts in after trash day.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Do everyone a favor and put your trash cans away after they&#8217;ve been emptied. That way, no one has to place a reminder on your can. Follow the jump for more info.<!--more-->Volunteers help remind residents of trash cart rules<br \/>\nCity volunteers are fanning out across Carlsbad starting this week to place reminder notices on trash carts that have been left out after collection day. Under city laws, trash carts may be put out on the street between 6 p.m. the day before collection and 6 a.m. the day of collection. They must be removed no later than midnight the day of collection.<\/p>\n<p>The city recently switched to a new automated trash collection service, which included swapping out residents\u2019 old trash and green waste cans with more than 100,000 new, wheeled carts that can be lifted by hydraulic arms on specially designed trash trucks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents have done a great job making the switch to the new trash service,\u201d said Craig Schmollinger, management analyst for the city\u2019s Utilities Department. \u201cThe goal of this effort is to give a friendly reminder to residents about the need to take their carts in after trash day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Schmollinger, some residents have left their carts out because they want a different size, and a few just don\u2019t want to use the new system. <\/p>\n<p>Residents may change the number and size of their carts by calling Waste Management at 866-WM-RECYCLE. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to keep our neighborhoods safe and clean,\u201d says Schmollinger. \u201cWhen solid waste carts are left out all week, they interfere with street parking and street sweepers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Residents who would like to help this effort can print out a letter from the city website, www.carlsbadca.gov\/trash, and deliver it to neighbors who leave their carts out. <\/p>\n<p>According to Schmollinger, the city has the ability to impose fines and even remove trash carts from residences that don\u2019t comply with the rules; however city staff are hopeful that the friendly reminders will do the trick.<\/p>\n<p>For more information<br \/>\nCraig Schmollinger, management analyst, craig.schmollinger@carlsbadca.gov or 760-602-7502<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, there are some in Carlsbadistan who have been bumming out all their neighbors, making their street look trashy, and being bad people in general by leaving their trash cans out on the street well after pick up day.
