Please Stay Out of Burned Areas<\/strong>
\nThe City of Carlsbad is asking the public to stay out of fire damaged areas. These areas can be dangerous, and walking on the burned open space could further damage the habitat areas and hamper the regrowth and restoration of these natural areas. The city has posted photos of the burned areas on its Facebook page for residents interested in seeing the damage.<\/p>\n

The Salvation Army in North County is accepting donations of money, food, hygiene items, diapers, new baby toys, clothing and similar items for fire victims. No used items accepted. The North County Salvation Army center is located in Oceanside at 3935 Lake Blvd., 92056. <\/p>\n

Beware of Scams and Price Gouging
\nPlease refer to the San Diego County District Attorney\u2019s office notice for information about how to avoid common charity, insurance, debris removal, restoration and contractor scams. <\/p>\n

The Carlsbad City Attorney reminds the public that after the Governor declares a state of emergency, it is illegal for businesses to increase prices of essential goods and services by more than ten percent unless they can prove it was due to an increase in their supplier\u2019s price. The prohibition on price gouging after a disaster applies to consumer food and services, goods or services used for emergency cleanup, supplies, medical supplies, home heating oil, building materials, housing, transportation, freight and storage services, and gasoline or other motor fuels. In addition, it is a misdemeanor during 30 days following the state of emergency proclamation for a hotel or motel to increase regular rates. You can report price gouging to the District Attorney\u2019s Consumer Protection Unit at 619-531-4070.<\/p>\n

UPDATE 5\/16\/14, 3 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

The City of Carlsbad is in the process of deactivating its Emergency Operations Center. The Fire Department has established a department operations center to continue to manage the Poinsettia Fire, which is still at 85 percent contained. Fire personnel are patrolling affected areas to respond to hot spots and flare ups. Some City of Carlsbad fire resources are being deployed to other fires in the county as needed.<\/p>\n

<\/a>UPDATE 5\/16\/14, 7:30 AM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Poinsettia Fire is 85 percent contained. Fire crews continue to respond to hotspots in Carlsbad. City of Carlsbad Emergency Operations Center remains open to assist with response and recovery efforts. All roads are open and evacuations have been lifted. Resource information for fire victims has been posted to the city\u2019s home page. Weather continues to be favorable, with 5 mph winds and higher humidity forecast through the weekend. Three Carlsbad strike teams are being redeployed to assist with efforts in San Marcos. Air quality continues to be a concern. Residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activities.<\/p>\n

There are three points where Carlsbad Police Department is still controlling access to residents for safety reasons:

The Carlsbad Police Department has established a Tip Hotline for the Poinsettia Fire. The evacuation order has been lifted on all areas associated with the Poinsettia Fire. Residents are allowed to re-enter the area and their homes. Please use caution as there are still police and fire equipment and personnel in some areas. Thanks for your patience and cooperation.
\nCity of Carlsbad incident command staff are preparing to release some resources so they can be redeployed where needed. Current city resources deployed include 9 strike teams, 4 hand crews and 2 bulldozers with crews, representing approximately 300 firefighters.<\/p>\n

Major roadways throughout Carlsbad are now open; however limited access has been granted to Ambrosia Lane to facilitate support for safety personnel. Law enforcement personnel will be setting up checkpoints to monitor access to evacuated areas. Please proceed with caution and obey directions from safety personnel.<\/p>\n

If you needed to abandon your vehicle due to the evacuation please retrieve your vehicles from roadways to keep them clear for normal traffic.<\/p>\n

UPDATE 5\/15\/14, 5:25 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

The evacuation order is lifted for all neighborhoods with access off of Ambrosia Lane, north of Aviara Parkway and south of Poinsettia Lane.<\/p>\n

The evacuation order is lifted for all neighborhoods with access off Mimosa Drive, south of Poinsettia, north of Aviara Parkway and west of El Camino Real.<\/p>\n

The following streets can access their homes via Brigantine Dr. to retrieve necessities only<\/strong>. The evacuation order is still in place for these streets:<\/p>\n

\nWayfinders Court
\nSeaport Place
\nMaritime Drive
\nWeatherly Road
\nMartingale Court<\/p>\n

Skimmer Court remains closed and the evacuation order is still effect.<\/p>\n

Residents returning to evacuated areas are reminded to:<\/p>\n

\t\u2022 Report any gas or electricity issues to 800-411-SDGE.
\n\t\u2022 Use a flashlight. Do not light matches or turn on electrical switches if you suspect electrical damage or gas leaks.
\n\t\u2022 Check for gas leaks starting at the water heater. If you smell gas, get everyone out of the house; turn off the main gas valve, open windows and contact the utility company.
\n\t\u2022 If there is no power, check to make sure the main breaker is on. Fires may cause breakers to trip. If the breakers are on and power is still not present, contact the utility company.
\n\t\u2022 Inspect the roof immediately and extinguish any sparks or embers. Wildfires may have left burning embers that could re-ignite.
\n\t\u2022 Recheck for smoke and sparks throughout the home, including the attic for several hours. The winds of wildfires can blow burning embers anywhere. Keep checking your home for embers that could cause fires.
\n\t\u2022 Do not consume any food, beverages or medications that have been exposed to smoke, ash, heat, pressure, or chemicals.<\/p>\n

Additional safety tips for residents returning to evacuation areas are available on the San Diego County Recovery web site, http:\/\/sdcountyrecovery.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The only residents who may return to their homes are those who have received a message via the Alert San Diego reverse 9-1-1 system notifying them that the evacuation order has been lifted for their area. Please proceed with caution and obey direction by safety personnel.<\/p>\n

UPDATES, 5\/15\/14, 9:00 AM<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 400-acre Poinsettia Fire is now 60% contained. Damage assessments continue to be conducted throughout the city.<\/p>\n

Aviara Parkway between Ambrosia Lane and El Camino Real is now open to traffic; however please limit travel as much as possible to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles. Please remain vigilant and follow direction by safety personnel.<\/p>\n

Trash pickup will resume today to accessible neighborhoods. Regularly scheduled pickups will be delayed by one day this week.<\/p>\n

SDG&E is working collaboratively with local authorities to safely restore power as quickly as possible to those customers affected by the outages.<\/p>\n

Residents with large animals impacted by the fires who need help with their animals should call the County Department of Animal Services emergency line at 619-236-2341.<\/p>\n

City Hall, Faraday Center, Carlsbad Senior Center, Cole Library and the Library Learning Center remain open. Alga Norte, Harding and Stagecoach community centers, Monroe Street Pool and the Dove Library will be closed today.<\/p>\n

Carlsbad\u2019s Bike to Work Day pit stop scheduled for May 16 has been cancelled.<\/p>\n

Westfield Plaza Camino Real is unable to accept any additional large animals such as horses and livestock. Residents with large animals needing to evacuate should call San Diego County Animal Services for assistance: 619-236-2341.<\/p>\n

Calavera Hills Community Center, located at 2997 Glasgow, is open as a shelter accepting residents and their pets such as dogs, cats and rabbits. Community members are asked to crate their animals and have leashes available for their dogs. Residents with larger animals such as livestock are asked to head to Westfield Plaza Camino Real. The shelter is full stocked and not in need of donations at this time.<\/p>\n

UPDATE, 5\/14\/14, 3:35 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

La Costa Canyon High School, located at 1 Maverick Way, Carlsbad, 92009, has opened as an evacuation shelter run by the Red Cross. La Costa Canyon High School cannot accept pets. Residents with pets are asked to head to Westfield Plaza El Camino Real until another shelter opens.<\/p>\n

Carlsbad Unified School District is closing all schools Thursday and Friday. No school structures have been damaged, however, they are closing as a precaution.<\/p>\n

UPDATE, 5\/14\/14, 1:45 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

The safety and security of the community is our top priority and all available resources are being deployed. As of 1:30 p.m., approximately 15,000 evacuations notifications have been sent. We have confirmation of two structures lost. Evacuation boundaries are west of El Fuerte Road, south of Palomar Airport Road, north of Aviara Parkway and west to the coast. Information on school evacuations is available at www.carlsbadusd.k12.ca.us<\/p>\n
