\nCome help the City of Carlsbad keep their beautiful trails beautiful on June 7, 2014 at the Lake Calavera Preserve<\/a><\/strong> in commemoration of National Trails Day<\/a><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTrails are one of the most cherished features of Carlsbad and enable residents to get outdoors and lead an active healthy lifestyle,\u201d says Liz Ketabian<\/strong>, City of Carlsbad park planning manager. \u201cEvery year we have hundreds of volunteers who help to maintain our wonderful trail system for all to enjoy. We are excited to have this specific day for volunteers to get involved with Carlsbad\u2019s volunteer program and to participate at one of Carlsbad\u2019s largest open space preserves with over six miles of trails.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The trail work party begins at 8:30 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2104 at the Lake Calavera Preserve. For more details (including directions), follow the jump.Celebrate National Trails Day in Carlsbad <\/p>\n

On Saturday, June 7, the City of Carlsbad will commemorate National Trails Day with a trail volunteer event at the Lake Calavera Preserve.<\/p>\n

Participants should meet at 8:30 a.m. at the dam\/spillway located at the east end of the lake just off of the preserve\u2019s main entrance on Tamarack Avenue east of Strata Drive. Trail work at the volunteer event will include trail sign repairs and new sign installations, weed removal, trail erosion repairs and other minor trail improvements.<\/p>\n

National Trails Day, the country\u2019s largest celebration of trails, began in the late 1980s and is organized as a national commemorative day by the American Hiking Society. <\/p>\n

Directions to Lake Calavara Preserve
\nI-5 to Carlsbad Village Drive exit
\nHead east on Carlsbad Village Drive past El Camino Real and up into Calavera Hills (approximately 5 miles)
\nTurn left at College Drive
\nTurn right at first light onto Tamarack Avenue
\nParking is available along Tamarack Avenue and Strata Drive<\/p>\n

Follow signs to the west end of the lake for the volunteer sign-in and work briefing.<\/p>\n

Those who want to volunteer at this event should wear close toed shoes, a hat and sun screen. Tools for the trail work will be provided by the city as well as water and healthy snacks.<\/p>\n
