The City of Carlsbad\u2019s Cultural Arts Office presents a new installation in the Carlsbad Sculpture Garden, located at 2955 Elmwood St., immediately north of the city\u2019s Georgina Cole Library.<\/p>\n
Leslie and Paul Wilton: Reclaimed, Repurposed, Remembered<\/em>\u00a0features nine sculptures created by Escondido artists Leslie and Paul Wilton of Metalmorph Sculpture Studio. A free opening reception will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m., hosted by the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts. The Sculpture Garden is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In\u00a0Reclaimed, Repurposed, Remembered<\/em>, the Wiltons present brightly colored and witty metal assemblages from found and recycled bits and pieces, such machinery, car parts, lawn equipment, ordinary tableware, tools and repurposed wood. The artists combine, twist, bend, fuse, construct and paint a host of whimsical sculptures. From blue monkeys and frantic chickens to purple bugs, giant grasshoppers and oversized flowers, each sculpture has its beginnings in recycled and repurposed objects.<\/p>\n
Leslie Wilton began working as a glass artist nearly 30 years ago. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Art, and then took a workshop at the renowned Pilchuck Glass School in Washington. After serving two apprenticeships in the Bay Area, she returned home to start her production glass studio, Blacksheep Glass.\u00a0 In 1985, Leslie met her future husband, Paul, who is not only a master machinist but an inventor as well.\u00a0 He has manufactured components that have gone from Mars to the Marianas Trench. Together, the couple founded Metalmorph Sculpture Studio.<\/p>\n
The Carlsbad Sculpture Garden is also the site of a Family Open Studios event during\u00a0Reclaimed, Repurposed, Remembered<\/em>\u00a0on Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Family Open Studios\u2019 free, hands-on, art-making workshops offer opportunities for creative experiences shared by the whole family.<\/p>\n
The Carlsbad Sculpture Garden is operated by the City of Carlsbad\u2019s Cultural Arts Office and provides community members with the opportunity to enjoy art designed especially for outdoor settings. The Sculpture Garden has exhibited works by acclaimed national and international artists such as Italo Scanga and Kevin Capps, and by prominent local artists, such as Fritzie Urquhart and Jeffrey Laudenslager.
