{"id":2517,"date":"2008-05-11T13:13:32","date_gmt":"2008-05-11T20:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=2517"},"modified":"2008-05-14T13:20:27","modified_gmt":"2008-05-14T20:20:27","slug":"city-pays-dentist-105000-to-settle-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carlsbadistan.com\/?p=2517","title":{"rendered":"City Pays Dentist $105,000 To Settle Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Carlsbad has paid $105,000 to settle a lawsuit brought on by <strong>Robert <\/strong>and <strong>Liliana Rees<\/strong> after they were roughly arrested at their home during a birthday party in December of 2006, according to a story in the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.signonsandiego.com\/news\/northcounty\/20080510-9999-1mc10suit.html\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Union-Tribune<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to the suit filed in federal court, dentist Robert Rees was shot with a Taser several times, punched and had his arms and wrists twisted by Carlsbad police Officers <strong>Gerry Ellsworth<\/strong> and <strong>George Zavala<\/strong>. . . . Rees&#8217; wife, Liliana, was arrested on suspicion of resisting and obstructing an officer after she photographed the incident and tried to open the door of a police car to take a photo of her husband, the lawsuit said. She said she was slammed against the car. . . A charge of resisting arrest was dismissed when Robert Rees pleaded guilty to a loud noise violation. The criminal case against his wife was dismissed. . . .
