Carlsbad Couple’s Exit Strategy

by The Editors on January 2, 2009

The older we get the less bummed we are by news like this story about Warren Mingus, 88, and his wife from the San Diego Union-Tribune.

An elderly couple were found shot dead in their La Costa home Thursday in what appears to the county’s second murder-suicide case reported on the first day of 2009. . . . When police entered the house on Cannas Court, a short street less than half a mile from the intersection of Aviara Parkway and El Camino Real, just before 5 p.m., they found the bodies of an 88-year-old man and a 90-year-old woman, who had apparently died from bullet wounds, Carlsbad police said. . . An acquaintance of the pair told officers they were both in failing health and were suffering from numerous medical issues.

We just hope this is something they planned together. Our thoughts are with their families.

We visited Cal and Emma two weeks ago and they seemed healthy as you can be for their age and happy, we went out to lunch and enjoyed a lovely afternoon.
We are shocked and confused as to their deaths….Cal had pain, but has never seemed that bad, and Emma was healthy as can be as far as we knew….Curious and Confused… (extended family member)

My grandmother is aunt emmas sister and she was to call us on new years eve since we were busy shoveling the walk the night before and that call never came and we feel the same way. Have you talked to the detective on the case Mark Reyes with the Carlsbad police department @ 760-931-2161 apparently the bruntons got rid of all their stuff with 15 days according to them(the bruntons) so our side of the family have been left out of any details.

Needless to say we feel the same and you are not alone.

On the same page as you
