Shop With A Cop Pancake Breakfast

by The Editors on September 20, 2023

Join police officers from the Carlsbad Police Department, and surrounding cities, on the morning of Saturday, September 30, 2023 for delicious pancakes while supporting the happiness of local children during the holidays. It all goes down beginning at 8 AM in Magee Park at 258 Beech Avenue, Carlsbad, California.

Established in 1994, Shop with a Cop is an annual event sponsored by local law enforcement agencies, SeaWorld, Target and STAR/PAL that aims to provide children with a happier holiday season and encourage positive relationships with police. . . This year’s host agency is National City PD and in December, over 300 uniformed officers from over 30 different local, state, and federal agencies will volunteer their time and partner with a deserving child, selected from local schools, for a fun-filled day of private animal shows at SeaWorld and a holiday shopping spree at Target.

This event is generously presented by Richness of Giving who is joined by supporters including the City of Carlsbad, Mas Fina Cantina, Handel’s Ice Cream, Choice Juicery, Scripps, Baba Coffee, The Compass, Star/Pal, Señor Grubbys, and the Carlsbad Police Department.

Carlsbad Reads: The Line Becomes A River

by The Editors on April 3, 2023

Carlsbad Reads Together is an annual event that connects the entire Carlsbad community through reading, discussion and engagement of selected books. Throughout the month of April 2023, all three library locations will host book discussions, an author visit, and offer corresponding Exploration HUB classes, youth and teen events and more. This year’s selection for adult readers is Francisco Canú’s The Line Becomes a River: Dispatches From The Border.

Selected with input from some of the most engaged library patrons, the 2023 Carlsbad Reads Together adult selection is “The Line Becomes a River” by Francisco Cantú. This true story of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent’s experience on the front lines of the U.S.-Mexico border presents a nuanced, balanced view of courage and compassion in the line of duty. . . Raised in the Southwest United States, Francisco Cantú’s lifelong fascination with the border led him to find a job where he would experience its danger and heartbreak firsthand. He became a US border patrol agent, and over the next four years, he policed drug routes and smuggling corridors and tracked lost migrants across the desert. Now the author of a bestselling memoir about his experiences, he speaks with urgency, honesty, and empathy about how the border wreaks violence on both sides of the line.

Marklyn Retzer Trio Live At Lola’s

by The Editors on March 29, 2021

Local musician Marklyn Retzer is bringing his trio to Lola’s 7UP Market and Deli on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at noon for a two-hour live set of acoustic guitar based groove rock. The show will be outside on the steps of the museum across from the store. There is plenty of room to sit outside and spread out, and even some picnic tables and chairs available. Bring a lawn chair and make it easier to get your own space.

Why Lola’s? Here’s what Marklyn has to say:

Lola’s has legendary burritos and tacos. My kids started eating burritos there before they could even look over the counter. I’m stoked to be bringing music to support them and I’m looking forward to getting the songs out in the air.

Lola’s is located at 3292 Roosevelt St, in Carlsbad. For more info please click the link.

Carlsbad Music Festival To Return in 2021

by The Editors on June 27, 2020

In a June 27, 2020 letter to friends and supporters of the Carlsbad Music Festival Founder and Artistic Director Matt McBane lamented the cancelation of the 2020 festival and 17 consecutive years of music in Carlsbad and looked forward optimistically to 2021 when he says the festival will return.

After much creative brainstorming, discussion and reflection, we determined that with the pandemic and the restrictions in place, there was no way for our small organization to hold the Festival or alternative programming this summer. But don’t worry, we will be back in 2021!

For the complete letter, please follow the jump.
