After years of promoting their flip-flops with the shapely, faceless, g-stringed, “Reef Girl” asses, Carlsbad’s newest action sports neighbor Reef is finally going to sell suits, shoes, and sportwear to the women who have been appearing in their ads.
Launching Reef girls’ swim, shoes and sportswear categories has major implications for our brand,” comments Reef VP of Marketing, Kevin Flanagan. “We have evolved from a sandal company, to a year-round resource for footwear and apparel.”
So women’s asses are no longer simply sales props, now they are customers. Follow the jump for the rest of the news.

We all know Sal Masekela as the voice of the X Games, however, the Carlsbad High School graduate has just made the jump to the silver screen as an announcer in the new Sony Pictures animated feature film Surf’s Up along with some of the surf world’s biggest names.
Yesterday, the the entire cast and crew including Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, and Sal, were in Westwood, California for the June 2 premiere of the film which is described as follows:
A stylistically daring CGI feature, “Surf’s Up” is based on the groundbreaking revelation that surfing was actually invented by penguins. In the film, a documentary crew will take audiences behind the scenes and onto the waves during the most competitive, heartbreaking and dangerous display of surfing known to man, the Penguin World Surfing Championship.
The film opens June 8th. Click here for more info, or the link below for all the premiere photos.

Sadly, we’re only 200 steps from the beach, but we still prefer to sit here in our pajamas and check out what Surfshot.com reporter Corey M. Senese has to say about the surf at Carlsbad’s Taramack Surfing Beach on June 2, 2007:
Tamarack is looking like a nice spot this morning. The waves are head high and is showing us fair shape. There is a slight but of texture out on the surface at this spot, but nothing that is effecting the shape as of yet.
Well, Corey. Tamarack looks like a nice spot every morning, but you’re right, this morning it looks particularly nice. And who wouldn’t enjoy a “slight but of texture.” We may even drag our lazy asses down to the beach for a surf this morning. But first we’re going to do just one more thing on the computer. . .

We see him everywhere around town: the top of the Hemlock stairs, Jays, at the Beach Break Cafe. And he’s always cool, smiling, and happy to say hello. . . even though we’ve never said more than, “Hey.” That’s why it was good to read the profile Carlsbad Magazine did recently on Randy Laine. If you haven’t checked it out, click the link. We knew the basics of his raddness, but we had no idea .
