Coastal Roundabout Sculpture Approved

by The Editors on March 26, 2014

No, that piece of twisted metal is not the mangled fuselage of a downed Cesna 172, it’s Bay Area artist Roger White Stoller’s newest work “Coastal Helix.” And it will be the centerpiece of North County’s newest (yet rather pointless) traffic circle at the confluence of State Street and Carlsbad Boulevard on the Village’s north end.

“The roundabout is an important entryway into the City of Carlsbad, so we want a piece of art that tells people that this is a vibrant city, a cultural city, a city that treasures the environment and welcomes innovation,” said City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Manager Vincent Kitch. “Roger White Stoller has developed this piece of art working with stakeholders, the Arts Commission and community members. Everyone involved with the project has been impressed by his design and appreciation of our unique community.”

New Village Arts: Inside The Cuckoo’s Nest

by The Editors on March 11, 2013

Michael Striler Painting

The Foundry Studios, the art gallery portion of the New Village Arts Theatre is presenting an art show titled Inside The Cuckoo’s Nest in the lobby at New Village Arts Theatre, Saturday, March 30 through Sunday, April 21.

The resident artists at THE FOUNDRY STUDIOS present art themed to the new play at New Village Arts Theatre, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, an epic American classic that fights for the freedom of the human mind. Brawler Randle P. McMurphy feigns insanity to serve out his prison sentence at a mental institution controlled by Nurse Ratched, who dominates with a kind of violence that McMurphy can’t fight with his fists. The battle for control of the ward pushes rivals to the breaking point.

The opening reception for the art show is Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 6-8 pm. The New Village Arts Theatre is located at 2787 State Street in Carlsbad Village. For information about the exhibit and the play call 760/433.3245 or visit www.NewVillageArts.org or follow the jump. [click to continue…]
