This weekend Carlsbadistan street/stencil artist Bryan Synder will present his third annual solo show/30th birthday party which he “created, organized and promoted” titled Young At Art at 6 PM Friday December 10, 2010 at his studio at 2695 State Street in Carlsbad. Young At Art is a collection of new works from the past year including t-shirts, collector prints, stickers, magnets, and other collectibles/gifts.
Snyder says the majority of his new art has never been seen publicly, which quite frankly is hard for us to believe as we seem to see his signature splatter-painted objects all over the place. The event will be catered by Paradise Pizza so there’s that, too.

Carlsbadistan’s New Village Arts Theatre kicks off its November New Play Festival with stop number three of the world premiere of Yury Klavdiev’s I Am The Machine Gunner November 12-14, 2010.
In a poetic, vulgar, violent and aggressive translation, John Freedman presents Yury Klavdiev’s work that transcends time, place and person to capture the struggle of a young Russian gang member trying to find the same honor in his own battles that his grandfather found fighting Germany in World War II. This one man show features Equity actor James Knight, most recently seen in San Diego in ALIVE AND WELL at the Old Globe Theatre and is directed by David M. White.
Tickets for I Am The Machine Gunner are $15 or $39 for a festival pass which includes tickets to Renee Moreno’s Picturing My Sister (November 19-21, 2010), and Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (November 26-28, 2010). For more information click the link.

Lambesis, Carlsbadistan’s world famous advertising agency, is getting a load of press for their latest campaign for Skyy Vodka called Skyy Sexy according to a story on Popsop.com.
SKYY® Vodka announced a new ad campaign featuring bold, vibrant imagery that is provocative and engaging. The prints are shot by world-renowned photographer Raymond Meier, who last worked with SKYY on the 2008 SKYY Infusions launch ad campaign, and kicks off the global “SKYY SEXY” marketing push in support of the core, unflavored brand.
Shiny, slick, fetish gear always reminds us of the gimp scene from Pulp Fiction, but hey, if Skyy thinks it will help sell more vodka, then Lambesis has a real winner.

Thousands of people cruised Carlsbadistan’s Armada Drive on September 25-26, 2010 for the Annual Art Splash street art fair. While some vendors had hoped the good weather would bring more people over the two days, that didn’t stop those who were there from having a great time with jugglers, musicians, cake walks, politicians looking for votes, and most importantly, artists sharing their love of art with everyone.

Artist Cheryl Ehlers shared her Startdust Arts program with members of the Carlsbad Boys & Girls Club this summer.
Encouraged to think outside of the box, the children mapped out and started painting what they knew – the Carlsbad Village. The end result? A cohesive and beautiful collaborative piece that is being submitted to Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts Exhibit Program – a first for the Club. . . . “This was a fabulous partnership for us,” stated Club CEO Brad Holland. “The kids had a blast learning new creative painting and drawing techniques, and Cheryl did an incredible job encouraging and teaching our members. We are grateful for the gift of her time and talent.”

On Thursday, August 26, 2010 Carlsbadistan’s Ivanffy-Uhler Gallery will be hosting an opening reception for artiest Susan Weller.
Weller’s paintings are both reflections of her life spent near the ocean and of her travels in Europe. Weller lives and works in Laguna Beach and in Verona, Italy, in a 12th century palazzo, where she is inspired by the country’s rich cultural and architectural history. Art critic Roberta Carasso, Ph.D., says, “The artist is drawn to generations of history embedded in the facades” of ancient buildings. “Layers of generational narratives, each with its own mystical essence, find their way into her art.”
Those who enjoy the kind of art that hangs in the lobbies of some of the world’s largest corporations will not want to miss this.

A crew of budding artists shows off their work after a week at the Carlsbad Art Farm, according to a post on the school’s blog.
During the week, students learn to sketch animals; color mix using a limited pallet; how to block in their subject for a painting; a little about animal anatomy, and then use the colors they create on their own pallet to render their subject (in this case: a bunny, chickens and a mouse on a wheel). These students will be entering Grade 4 this fall.
The Art Farm Summer Camps are open to students entering Grades 2-8 in the fall of 2010 and run either mornings or afternoons beginning each Monday. Sign up now as there is still spots open. For more information click the link.
