Carlsbad’s 2016 State Of The City

by The Editors on September 12, 2016

We were a little late getting to this one, but here’s how the City would like you to think about the City of Carlsbad in 2016. Just for fun count the number of times the word “growth” is used. Developers just love that “growth” word, don’t they? And, there’s no one more friendly to development than the Carlsbad City Council. Click play and let Mayor Hall explain it all.

Set Sail With The SV Bella Luna

by The Editors on September 4, 2016

We’ve been following a Carlsbad acquaintance of ours on Instagram for the past few months as he and his wife, two kids, and their dogs did what many of us have dreamed, but never actually done: they sold their home in Carlsbad, bought a 42 foot Fountaine Pajot Catamaran, named it the SV Bella Luna, and shoved off to tour the world, or as Paul says, “to live a more simplified life, show our daughters the world and how other people live and to contribute to the communities we visit.”

We’ve been so inspired by the story that Paul, Diná, Bella, and Luna have been telling that we’re going to share their story here on Carlsbadistan. While their journey began months ago, we’re going to start right at the beginning with their first video. Stay tuned as we bring the rest of the story in weekly episodes. For more info on the family, click the link.

St. Pat’s Angels Hold Food Drive

by The Editors on October 1, 2015

St. Pat’s Angels, an initiative created by St. Patrick Catholic School in Carlsbad, will be holding a food drive for Got Your Back San Diego and the Bread of Life organization. Students from the school will be collecting a variety of foods for the organizations. The drive will run from September 30 to October 2, 2015. The public is welcome to participate by dropping off items at the school’s front gate off of Pio Pico Drive today or tomorrow.

“The Got Your Back San Diego Program has found that there are many kids who often have nothing for breakfast, snacks or dinner and are often hungry over school holidays and weekends,” stated Ramsey Barcik, St. Pat’s Angels Founder. “I’m pleased that the St. Pat’s Angels can help out.”

TGIF Aug. 21: The Glenn Miller Orchestra

by The Editors on August 17, 2015

What better way to close out the City of Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts in the Parks than with the blue-hair waving sounds of The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. Who is that? Well, maybe you should ask your grandmother (or great-grandmother?) and she’ll tell you that Glenn Miller’s Orchestra was the swingingest thing since the New York World’s Fair in 1939.

The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra is one of the most popular and sought after big bands in the world for both concert and swing dance engagements. The orchestra plays more than 300 live performances around the world each year and is pleased to close out the TGIF 2015 concert series.

We’re just hoping there will be more people in the audience than in the orchestra. Calavera Hills Community Park is located at 2997 Glasgow Drive, Carlsbad, California. If you don’t want to hassle with parking leave the car at Sage Creek High School and ride a shuttle. Shuttle service operates between 4:30 and 9 PM.

by The Editors on August 10, 2015

2012-01-15-Liquid-Blue-Band-In-Pasadena-Ca-At-Sexton-Auditorium-115

Calavera Hills Community Park finally gets its turn to host the City of Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts in the Parks as San Diego’s own cover dance band Liquid Blue whips things up at the top of Tamarack on Friday evening (August 14, 2015).

This San Diego based international act features Grammy winning musicians, a Billboard hit songwriter and a Chinese Idol finalist. This band performs the best in top pop dance hits and was a favorite with TGIF fans in 2014.

Yeah, so bring the kids and let them dance it all away. Calavera Hills Community Park is located at 2997 Glasgow Drive, Carlsbad, California. If you don’t want to hassle with parking leave the car at Sage Creek High School and ride a shuttle. Shuttle service operates between 4:30 and 9 PM.
