Carlsbad Library Celebrates Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Dr-Seuss-1-SizedFriday, March 2, 2012 would have been Dr. Seuss (a.k.a. Ted Geisel’s) 98th birthday (he died in 1991). To celebrate this event the Carlsbad Library is having a free story time at 3:30 PM:

. . . featuring special guest readers including members of the Carlsbad City Council. Kids and their families can also enjoy a visit from the Cat in the Hat and a Seuss-themed cake at the celebration.

Each Friday in March at 3:30 p.m., beginning on March 2

Carlsbad City Library will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Friday, March 2 at 3:30 p.m. with a free story time featuring special guest readers including members of the Carlsbad City Council. Kids and their families can also enjoy a visit from the Cat in the Hat and a Seuss-themed cake at the celebration. The Seuss Celebration takes place in the library’s Gowland Meeting Room, located at 1775 Dove Lane. For more information, call 760-602-2047.

March 2 also marks the start of the National Education Association’s Read Across America program, a national reading celebration that takes place each year on or near Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Now in its thirteenth year, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers across the country participate by bringing together kids, teens and books with the goal of motivating youth to read.

Read Across America story times will continue at Carlsbad City Library each Friday in March at 3:30 p.m. Guest readers will include the City of Carlsbad’s Parks & Recreation Director Chris Hazeltine, Carlsbad City Library board members and City of Carlsbad staff.
