If you’re going to ride your bike to work one day this year (you should be doing it every day, of course) then make it Bike To Work Day (Friday, May 15, 2015) because the City of Carlsbad and the San Diego Association of Governments will hook you up with some free goodies, maybe even a T-shirt at their “pit stop” at triangle park aka Frazee Beach at Carlsbad Boulevard and Pine Avenue.

“The City of Carlsbad encourages those who live and work in and around the city to join neighbors, friends and coworkers in celebrating Bike to Work Day with us,” said Rachael Shay, special events supervisor for the city. “The many miles of bike-friendly transportation systems in our community and now a great campaign like Walk + Bike Carlsbad make it easy to take in Carlsbad from a different perspective.”

We’ll see you on the road. For the official word from the City of Carlsbad, please follow the jump.Cyclists participating in Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 15, can stop at a “pit stop” location at the seawall at Frazee Beach at Carlsbad Boulevard and Pine Avenue as they pass through the City of Carlsbad from 6 to 9 a.m.

Bike to Work Day, organized regionally by San Diego Association of Governments, promotes bicycling as a healthy, economical and environmentally friendly commute choice. While supplies last, cyclists will receive snacks, beverages and other giveaways at the pit stop. Additionally, information will be available about Walk + Bike Carlsbad, a partnership led by the City of Carlsbad, Circulate San Diego and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition to promote walking and biking around Carlsbad, with a special focus on the downtown Village and surrounding areas. Walk + Bike Carlsbad is a 12-month campaign is funded by a grant from SANDAG and includes events, outreach to schools, business promotions and other activities to get more people walking and biking instead of driving on short trips around town.

Ongoing improvements to city streets to install new bike lanes or widen existing bike lanes continue to make Carlsbad more bike-friendly. These improvements increase transportation options and opportunities for healthy recreation as well as benefitting business and tourism in our community.
