TGIF Concerts In The Parks 2016 Lineup

The City of Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts in the Parks begin on June 24, 2016 at Stagecoach Community Park, located at 3420 Camino de los Coches. The outdoor concert series runs each Friday through Aug. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., at community parks across the city.

Presented by the City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office, TGIF concerts feature a lively mix of regional bands and top touring groups. The music covers a wide range of styles, from country to spicy Latin. Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of free shuttle service for concerts at Alga Norte, Poinsettia and Calavera Hills community parks, as onsite parking is limited. The shuttle runs from 4:30 to 9 p.m. This year, ride share options are available through Lyft and Uber.

A variety of food vendors are onsite at the events or attendees are welcome to bring refreshments from home. Artists of all ages can take part in Family Open Studios at TGIF, a free, hands-on art activity. Guests can also support future arts and cultural events in Carlsbad by purchasing opportunity drawing tickets from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts for a chance to win prizes.

The complete concert schedule is listed below. Admission to all concerts is free. No admittance to concert venues is allowed before 4 p.m. For the safety of all concert goers, the following are not permitted at the concert venues: pets, smoking and vaping, grills, skateboards, rollerblades, skates and bicycles. July 1 The Dustbowl Revival – Vintage Bluegrass/Country

Bluegrass. Swing. Hot jazz. Pre-war blues. Southern soul. New Orleans funk. The Dustbowl Revival is best described as an American roots orchestra with eight full-time members, who truly play it all.

July 8 The Mighty Untouchables – Party Cover Band

This supreme multi-cultural mix of musicians and singers entertain throughout the world and are guaranteed to please audiences of all tastes. The Mighty Untouchables’ repertoire includes songs from Bruno Mars, CeeLo Green, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and Celia Cruz just to name a few!

July 15 Nancarrow – Country Rock

Nancarrow is an original honky tonk band from San Diego. The band infuses raw energy and classic tones to create and perform their own unique brand of American song. The style is pure and rooted in the rich traditions of country and alternative music.

July 22 Boogaloo Assassins – Latin/Salsa/Soul

Inspired by the classic sounds of New York’s late 60s and early 70s Latin soul music explosion, the Boogaloo Assassins serve up Latin Boogaloo, salsa and Latin soul music.

July 29 Sully & the Blue-Eyed Soul Band – R&B Cover Band

People can’t sit down when they hear the Grammy Award-winning talent of Sully & the Blue-Eyed Soul Band. This good time group is known for playing tunes by artists such as The Doobie Brothers, Bill Withers and Steely Dan, as well as their own original music.

Aug. 5 Western Centuries with The Bedbreakers – Country & Rockin’ Roots Blues

Round up a country band and an early R&B group with three lead vocalists, weave in a hefty amount of vocal harmony and witty turns-of-phrase and let ‘em rock out like The Band. The sound of roots music mavericks Western Centuries sits at these crossroads. The Bedbreakers are one of San Diego’s top Roots and Blues bands.

Aug. 12 Todo Mundo – World Latin

Todo Mundo, voted “Best World Music” band at the 2014 San Diego Music Awards, blends the musical flavors of Spanish Rumba, Reggae, Brazilian, Balkan and Middle Eastern styles into an irresistible groove that has been moving dance floors and connecting with audiences across the world since 2009.

Aug. 19 The Detroit Underground – Soul/Cover/Dance

The Detroit Underground features a solid and funky rhythm section along with California’s best male and female lead vocalists. This powerful combination of dedicated musicians gives the band the ability to crank out tunes from artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Kahn and Stevie Wonder.

Since 1986, the City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office has worked to make arts and culture an integral and inspiring part of the community’s life, through programs and services such as TGIF Concerts in the Parks, Family Open Studios, Three-Part-Art, the William D. Cannon Art Gallery and City of Carlsbad Sculpture Garden, Carlsbad Community Arts Grants and other activities. The Cultural Arts Office seeks to create connections among artists, cultural organizations, community groups, businesses, visitors and residents that sustain and promote a thriving, diverse and creative city.
