LEGOLAND California Donates More Than $75,000 to Carlsbad Educational Foundation
Celebrate Carlsbad Day Raises $106,650

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 2, 2009) – Phones haven’t even begun ringing for the Carlsbad Educational Foundation’s annual Kids are Worth a Million telecast and already the foundation has raised $106,650.

The funds raised include a $75,000 donation from LEGOLAND® California which today hosted Celebrate Carlsbad Day – a huge pep rally for education featuring more than 300 talented youngsters from 12 Carlsbad schools plus local dignitaries and business leaders.

“We at LEGOLAND California believe strongly in imagination, creativity and the value of education,” said Peter Ronchetti, General Manager of the family theme park. “It is refreshing to see our North County neighbors come together to support these values.”

Carlsbad Mayor “Bud” Lewis was in attendance along with State Assemblyman Martin Garrick. Representatives from several local businesses also attended and made major contributions to the Carlsbad Education Foundation during the festivities. Barnhart Inc., donated $10,000; Movie Max Theater donated $7,200; and Life Technologies and Fidelity Investments each gave $5,000.

Other donors include Gafcon; Trittipo Architecture and Planning; California Financial Services; Coast Waste Management; Coastal Pain Spinal Diagnostic; The Lund Team; Tri City Medical Center; and, of course the 7,500 North County residents who purchased specially-priced LEGOLAND tickets for $15 with $10 from each ticket donated to the Foundation.

“In this time of financial crisis it is so important to have the support of our community. It is exciting to see everyone come together to rally around education,” said Lisa Posard, President of the Carlsbad Education Foundation. “We are so thankful to LEGOLAND for hosting this event and for its generous donation – the Park has always been such a good neighbor to the Carlsbad Education Foundation.”

This is the second year that LEGOLAND California has hosted Celebrate Carlsbad Day. This year, the park is staying open late for the event – closing at 9 instead of 5 p.m. and adding a special fireworks show.

Carlsbad Education Foundation’s annual Kids Are Worth A Million telecast will soon air on Time Warner Cable Channel 19.
