OFFERS FREE GROCERIES TO FIRST 200 PEOPLE ON OPENING DAY, SEPTEMBER 2

Henry’s Farmers Market, a 66-year-old family of Southern California stores, is opening its 31st location in Carlsbad on September 2, located at 2618 El Camino Road.

The full service grocery store officially opens at 8:00 AM, giving a pre-selected shopping bag of free groceries to the first 200 people who arrive (with no purchase necessary). “In these tough economic times, that’s sure to attract a good number of people who need some help,” says Janet Little, Henry’s Farmers Market’s nutritionist and spokesperson.

Grand opening ceremonies take place at 7:45 AM with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the public and executives from Henry’s, as well as local civic officials, all with official proclamations.

If your first name is Henry (and you show identification) you will be treated to a free deli sandwich that day. Shoppers can also register for two Health and Fitness Assessment Tests coming up, conducted by Little. There is a very nominal charge of only $10 for the test. However, each person will receive a $5-off Henry’s coupon. The first date for testing is September 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The second date is September 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Space is limited and those wanting to participate may register in the Vitamin Department at Henry’s.

Little describes shopping at the friendly, neighborhood Henry’s Farmers Markets as “reminiscent of produce stands and corner butcher shops of the 1950s. We’re proud to support local California area farmers, fishermen and suppliers whenever possible,” says Little. “It promotes sustainability and enables us to offer our customers the freshest and most practically-priced products available.”

“Henry’s has also always been devoted to partnering with nonprofit organizations in the community,” she adds. As a transitional store between farm and supermarket, Henry’s offers customers one of the largest full-service healthy-living departments around that includes nutritional and natural body care products to fit every lifestyle.

Henry Boney established his family-owned business in 1943 in San Diego. Now a favorite in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties, Henry’s has been named the “best health food store” by readers of the San Diego Union-Tribune and the “best place to buy produce” by readers of The Orange County Register. Recently, Henry’s was named as the “best value” for quality food by Our City San Diego Food Lover’s Guide.

Little concludes, “We’re looking forward to serving the Carlsbad area residents.” Henry’s recently opened two stores in the Los Angeles area, in Woodland Hills and Monrovia. Their next store will be opened in Burbank September 30.
