I hope they had a paramedic crew standing by…
This makes the crowds, the holiday muzak, and even the fruitcake worthwhile!
Thanks ever so much. ROFLMAO

Dear Santa Bud and the City Council Elves,

Most of us have been pretty good this year.

Except for the snobs who don’t like autistic people and that was probably because they didn’t know any.

All we really want for Christmas is the Alga Norte Park & Pools.
It’s kind of like socks, it’s something practical ’cause we need them as well as want them. WiFi in the Village would be nice, too (I mean, Encinitas has had it for a long time now!) but Alga Norte is much more important.

The waiting list for swim lessons was horrible this summer (as always) even though times were tighter financially than most folks can remember. What does that tell you, Santa Bud??

Read the news: near drownings, skateboard accidents in the streets, kids with nothing to do, vandalism, getting into trouble more each year.

Do you want to be remembered for giving Carlsbad The Crossings which will save zero lives –and which most people think of as a lump of coal– or for giving Carlsbad Alga Norte Park and Pools?

Go ahead and put it out for bids ASAP…before prices go up! Get it on sale now!

Don’t be afraid. People will flock to Alga Norte and sing your praises! You will be heroes!

Talk to the Parks and Rec Dept about how heavily the pool is used year-round now, even during these rough economic times. Better yet, come over and visit the pool on Monroe next to the high school.

A community like ours, with wonderful climate year-round, with tourists from all over the world, with a variety of sports? We’ll be using the new park and those pools every day from Opening Day!

Believe in Carlsbad, Santa Bud.

Stand up for what you know is right, Council Elves!

After all, you live right here in Carlsbad not the North Pole, you know what’s going on here, how desperately we need Alga Norte, and how the voters are going to hold you accountable. Grading is not enough! Graded land will not teach kids to swim. We are a beachfront community…everyone in Carlsbad should be able to enroll their kids in public swim lessons, not wait months and months. We’re not asking for free lessons. Just a pool complex to keep up with the expanded population that you guys on the council authorized to move in when you let contractors build all these houses everywhere. More houses should equal more schools and parks and pools.
You have the $ to build it. It is not the same as a golf course. It will be used by everyone, all segments of the community. It won’t cost $60 .

On behalf of lots of kids who can’t vote and unfortunately can’t swim either, other kids who soon won’t have a place to skateboard, seniors who can’t afford aqua therapy or have no transportation, I’m asking respectfully for your consideration.

In November 2010, all the voters will be weighing in, we’ll be choosing a new Santa – I mean mayor – and a couple of Council Elves. Maybe you candidates should spend some of those monster campaign budgets on polling since you don’t believe the citizens who come to Council sessions. Random polls will make you see what the people of Carlsbad really care about: remember in the spring how many hundreds of people showed up in support of Alga Norte? How many citizens came to oppose it? Exactly zero.

You don’t need a special interest union or an expensive political consultant to read that writing on the wall to you.

Amen Green, Amen!

Exactly the reason that I am running for council this year!

We need to hear what you and all of the others have to say!

Thank you for this candid, humorous piece!
