Set Sail With The SV Bella Luna

by The Editors on September 4, 2016

We’ve been following a Carlsbad acquaintance of ours on Instagram for the past few months as he and his wife, two kids, and their dogs did what many of us have dreamed, but never actually done: they sold their home in Carlsbad, bought a 42 foot Fountaine Pajot Catamaran, named it the SV Bella Luna, and shoved off to tour the world, or as Paul says, “to live a more simplified life, show our daughters the world and how other people live and to contribute to the communities we visit.”

We’ve been so inspired by the story that Paul, Diná, Bella, and Luna have been telling that we’re going to share their story here on Carlsbadistan. While their journey began months ago, we’re going to start right at the beginning with their first video. Stay tuned as we bring the rest of the story in weekly episodes. For more info on the family, click the link.

Behind The Oklahoma Scenes At NVA

by The Editors on September 1, 2016

Carlsbad’s New Village Arts Theatre is currently performing their production of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Oklahoma, and the show has been receiving rave reviews.

Oklahoma! is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece about a romantic rivalry on the Western frontier which boasts a collection of classic songs and a spirit that’s made it an enduring favorite. The story of the lovely Laurey and her two determined suitors — Curly the cowboy and Jud the hired farmhand — also tackles the class issues between farmers and cattlemen in the rugged landscape of a new state.

For a look behind the New Village Arts Theatre’s production, and how they did it, click play on the video above. To reserve tickets to see Oklahoma in person, click here.

TGIF 9: The Detroit Underground

by The Editors on August 16, 2016

The Detroit Underground, is not new to Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts In The Parks, and those who saw them last year appreciated their solid and funky rhythm section and powerful lead vocalists who crank out tunes from artists such as Stevie WonderChaka Kahn, and Earth, Wind and Fire. The group features a very solid and funky rhythm section. These four seasoned players provide a solid foundation for the band’s “smokin” horns.
