On February 22, 2014 the City of Carlsbad will host it’s 11th Annual Teen Scene at the Calavera Hills Community Center. All ages are welcome. The evening will features a battle of the bands, a neon dance room, and a video game experience.
“The caliber of talent that Teen Scene attracts as well as its high-quality production, professional judges and prizes have made it one of the largest teen events in North County,” said Rachael Shay, special events supervisor for the City of Carlsbad. “The City of Carlsbad is proud to offer this venue for creative expression to its young residents.”

Each year the Carlsbad Music Festival brings music (with a capital M) to the Village of Carlsbad in what has become one of the most respected music festivals on the West Coast. To help raise funding for the 2014 event the Carlsbad Music Festival is hosting a benefit on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Carlsbad Inn Village Terrace.
Benefit guests will enjoy a catered reception, silent auction, and performance by Wu Man, world renown Chinese pipa player, Carlsbad resident and 2013 Musical America Instrumentalist of the Year. . . Recognized as the world’s premier pipa virtuoso and leading ambassador of Chinese music, Grammy Award nominated musician Wu Man has carved out a career as a composer, soloist, and educator giving her lute-like instrument – which has a history of two thousand years in China – a new role in both traditional and contemporary music. Through numerous trips to her native China, Wu Man has premiered hundreds of new works for the pipa, while spearheading multimedia projects to both preserve and create awareness of China’s ancient musical traditions. Her adventurous spirit and virtuosity have led to collaborations across artistic disciplines allowing Wu Man to reach wider audiences as she works to break through cultural and musical borders.
Jack Tempchin has written so many hit pop songs, it’s crazy. From Peaceful Easy Feeling and Already Gone for the Eagles to Johnny Rivers’Slow Dancing, and Glenn Frey’sSmugglers Blues. On Saturday evening, November 9, 2013 Tempchin is spending the evening at Carlsbad’s New Village Arts Theatre for A Night of Wine & Song.
Songwriter Jack Tempchin is considered to be a co-architect of The Southern California Sound. Tempchin has been a contributor on multiple multi-platinum Eagles cuts, including “Somebody” and “It’s Your World Now” which are both featured on The Eagles’ Long Road Out Of Eden, and “The Girl From Yesterday” which was featured on The Eagles’ Hell Freezes Over reunion CD.

Into Jazz? Well, Carlsbad’s Museum of Making Music is bringing together six of San Diego’s “top jazz musicians for a special evening celebrating the feminine side of jazz and the work of female composers from around the world” on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
The concert features vocalist Allison Adams Tucker, flutist Lori Bell, pianist Melonie Grinnell, contrabassist Evona Wascinski, drummer Laurel Grinnell, and percussionist Monette Marino.

For 2013 the Carlsbad Music Festival is stacked with talent and beautiful music of all styles, shapes and sounds.
The Festival was founded in 2003 by composer, violinist and Carlsbad-native, Matt McBane and has been praised by local and national media including the Los Angeles Times, which called the Festival “magnificently enlightening.” In 2010, the Festival won the national ASCAP Chamber Music America Award for Adventurous Programming and in 2012 and 2013, the Festival was awarded prestigious Artworks Grants from the National Endowment of the Arts.
Carlsbad artist, designer, author and musician, Jaimie Muehlhausen is launching his showing of Modern Day Folk Art titled Attack of the Fez Men Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 7 to 11 PM at the Craftlab Gallery in Oceanside.
Jaimie will also be playing a short acoustic music set during the night. Plus, there will be a display of the artist’s personal vintage Fez collection. Show runs until October with additional appearances by the artist. There will also be a display of new art from local artist Chris Kepler.

The June Village Music Walk is a FREE community event that will feature a full evening of 30+ performances of adventurous music of all kinds in intimate venues around Carlsbad Village. The Village Music Walk is a regular and popular feature of the September Carlsbad Music Festival, and this year we are additionally presenting it as a standalone event in June. Venues range from the Foundry at New Village Arts to Spin Records to Magee Park to the old train station. With over 30 concerts to choose from over the evening, a Music Walk attendee can choose their own pathway through the music and the Village.

The Tilt band is creating new music and original songs with a fresh new sound of organic Rock and Blues. They are a youthful but experienced band fronted by singer Jesse Malley and guitarist Jeff Irwin. The Tilt delivers live as well as in the studio and continues to maintain a do-it-yourself approach to writing, recording, and releasing original songs. Their debut album is set for early 2013.

The Neverly Brothers play all your favorite hits from 1950s American Rockabilly, Rock n’ Roll and Rhythm & Blues pioneers up through the 1964 British Invasion groups in an awe inspiring concert that will have you singing, dancing and thoroughly entertained. Dressed in period-perfect matching suits from each era, and playing show-stopping renditions of all the classics, these rockers have a look and a sound that will make you feel like you are witnessing rock history unfold before your very eyes and ears.
