Carlsbad’s self-proclaimed social media marketing and SEO expert Paul Christoforo has proved one thing for certain–he knows how to make a name for himself and his Carlsbadistan based company Ocean Marketing using social media. Unfortunately, it is for all the wrong reasons, according to a story titled Ocean Marketing Disaster in the International Business Times.
Christoforo, who was handling customer service for a company called N-Control replied to a customer who was complaining about not getting his video game controller with the following email:
“Really … Welcome to the Internet ? Son Im 38 I wwebsite as on the internet when you were a sperm in your daddys balls and before it was the internet, thanks for the welcome to message wurd up,” Christoforo said. “Grow up you look like a complete child bro. I Don’t have my controller so I’m gonna cry to the world … Really ?? Hey take that free time and do something more productive. All you had to do was check the like everyone else , people have inquired but you’re the douchiest of them all J.”
When the customer posted his email exchange to Reddit things really began to snowball for Chrisoforo, resulting in more international media coverage than anyone in Carlsbad has gotten in a while, all for being reprehensible to customers.
There is much more to the story, but in the end Chrisoforo was apologizing to anyone and everyone for the way he’d handled things and he lost the N-Control account.

We can’t disagree more with the message included in this City of Carlsbadistan video. Watch that copper, grease is bad, shop local, and oh, don’t let the thieves steal your Christmas presents.
Carlsbadistan’s flagging golf company Callaway Golf is hoping to boost sales slump by digging deep into the world of celebrity and hiring “multiple Emmy and Grammy Award-winning actor, musician and avid golfer” Justin Timberlake as “creative director” of the company.
The multi-year agreement was announced by Jeff Colton, Sr. Vice President of Global Brand and Product, Callaway Golf. . . “We have worked with Justin for more than three years now and have been thoroughly impressed with the level of quality he brings to everything he is involved with,” said Colton. “Justin is an extremely gifted artist and an avid golfer with a deep passion for Callaway products, and his creative energy will serve us well as we connect with the next generation of golfers. The opportunity to bring someone with his multifaceted talents into our creative matrix is very rare, and his input has already made an impact.”
Good luck, Callaway employees. Paying a celebrity to wear/use your product is one thing, but when a starstruck management team mistakenly believes that a celebrity can add something more than an endorsement they’re obvious confused. The stock is up 13 cents on the news this morning, but ELY is still down 29.69 percent on the year.
We’re guessing this new move will do little more than help put more money in Timberlake’s pockets.
Aptera, Carlsbadistan’s once darling electric car manufacturer has throw in the towel due to some funding issues. And now the company is being forced to auction off all of its assets, according to a story on EGM Car Tech.
The company will auction off computers, furnishings and auto-repair equipment, in order to raise funds to pay off some of Aptera’s creditors, AutoObserver reports. . . The auction will be conducted by Heritage Global Partners on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 on its website. A preview will be provided on Dec. 19.
Hope they have some extra Aeron chairs laying around. Guess we’ll find out on December 19, 2011.
Been wondering what exactly when into the old Blockbuster video store on Carlsbad Village Drive? It’s Carlsbadistan’s newest seafood and sushi restaurant, Catch. Here managing partner Steve Barr tells us all about it. We’ve haven’t checked it out yet. If you have, let us know how it is in the comments.
Why would a successful businessman pay so much money for a media property that its previous owners couldn’t wait to unload? Well, a couple reasons. First, the paper is reportedly profitable at the moment, and Doug Manchester, like many first-time newspaper owners before him, probably thinks that he is smart enough to not only stay profitable, but increase profits, for long period of time. (He is wrong.) And second, because Doug Manchester is a “conservative and anti-tax” nut who plans to use the paper to push a “pro-business” (meaning pro-Doug Manchster’s financial interests!) agenda.
Turns out we’re not the only one’s who think Legoland prices are outrageously expensive. The Malaysian Tourists Guides Council says the entrance fees to Asia’s first ever Legoland Malaysia theme park in Johor Baru are, surprise, “Too high for locals,” according to a story on The Star.
He said Legoland Malaysia should have a two-tier ticket system to cater to both locals and foreigners. . . “Other places of interest, like the cable car ride in Langkawi or the Istana Muzium here, have implemented such a system,” he told The Star yesterday.
Yeah. What he said. It appears that when the park opens “at the end of 2012” Legoland Malaysia’s prices will be almost worth considering for a Carlsbadistan family of four. At current exchange rates adults will pay about $44 a day visit the park, while here in Carlsbad it costs $72.
The California Energy Commission is giving several of Carlsbad residents concerns regarding the expansion of the NRG Power Station another look and you can help make the difference.
An Evidentiary Hearing will be held in Carlsbad on Monday, December 12, 2011 to hear additional testimony on six topics. Of primary concern to local residents is discussion of whether the new proposed power plant violates Carlsbad land use rules and NRG’s reneging on their agreement to tear down the aging Encina Power Station.
The hearing begins at 8:30 AM and public comment starts at 5:30 PM December 12, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 6450 Carlsbad Blvd. Follow the jump for more details.
Carlsbadistan’s electric car start-up Aptera is apparently experiencing some difficult times and is now reportedly in the process of refunding all customer deposits taken for it’s high-mileage small car, according to a post on Triple Pundit.
Unfortunately, the company has experienced numerous setbacks, and the production dates have repeatedly been pushed back. Although originally scheduled to be delivered in late 2008, production deadlines have been missed and moved back as design changes continued to mount and funds dwindled. In 2010, Aptera was denied $184 million, in U.S. Department of Energy loans. The company re-applied for the DOE loans under a revised bill, but those monies have yet to be awarded.
If UltraStar is going to close three theaters in North County, it figures that it would be the ones we visit most often. The Del Mar Hightlands UltraStar closed in January and on May 2, 2011 UltraStar’s La Costa location closed, and Flower Hill (the only North County location for quality films) will close this summer, according to a story in the North County Times.
UltraStar, which currently operates 14 theaters in Southern California and Arizona, closed two theaters in North San Diego County after the company opted to not renew leases, Rubio explained. . . “They were old Edwards theaters that we never had a chance to structure the way we wanted. We had to live with what we had there,” he said.
As digital delivery continues to gain we’re certain we’ll be hearing about more and more theater closings moving forward. It’s nice to hope that the LaCosta and Del Mar Highlands locations will reportedly reopen as “luxury boutique theaters” under new ownership and we’re hoping they play the art-house style films that Flower Hill delivered, but we’re not going to bet on that. At least we can hope.
