Things We Want At New Village Arts

by The Editors on September 17, 2009

HeartTonight, September 17, 2009, Carlsbadistan’s own professional theatre company New Village Arts Theatre kicks of their ninth season with the play Things We Want, by Jonathan Marc Sherman.

Things We Want is young, hip, exciting and a great match for the men in NVA’s Ensemble. Three adult brothers are living together once again in their childhood apartment, struggling to define themselves while pursuing their desires and dreams. A darkly comic look at the illusions we have about what makes us happy – and what is within our power to change.

The Village Arts Theatre is located at 2787 State St, Carlsbad, CA. Click here to buy tickets or call (760) 433-3245.

Get Your Moog On At The MoMM

by The Editors on August 29, 2009

Moog

Anyone who loves electronic music owes a huge debt of respect to Bob Moog. Everyone from Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, and Devo to Abba and George Harrison have used Moog’s technology to make music. This weekend the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbadistan is kicking off their latest exhibition: “Waves of Inspiration: The Legacy of Moog.”

The exhibition focuses on the life, work and philosophy of Bob Moog, a pioneer in the field of electronic music, developing the Moog synthesizer in 1964. The history of Bob Moog also encompasses the story of how the synthesizer became commercially accessible to musicians for the first time, and how it provided them with new realms of sonic expression.

On Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 1 PM exhibition Advisor Brian Kehew (Moog Cookbook, The Who) and Larry Fast (Synergy, Peter Gabriel) will present a multimedia exploration of the life, work and philosophy of Bob Moog. The Museum will broadcast this event LIVE over the internet on Sunday, August 30th at 1 PM (PST). To attend online, please visit www.museumofmakingmusic.org and click on the “Live Broadcast” link.

Tickets are $10; FREE for Museum Members. Purchase tickets online or call 760-438-5996.

Bryan Snyder Art Show Sat. Aug. 29

by The Editors on August 24, 2009

Snyder Art 2009

Not that anyone would have to go to Bryan Snyder’s gallery to see his art, as it seems to have been showing up all over Carlsbadistan for the past couple years, but for those who don’t get to see it as much as we do, Bryan has “created, organized, and promoted” his own show (catered by the makers of Carlsbadistan’s best fish tacos Senor Grubby’s) on Saturday August 29, 2009 at Snyder Art from 7 to 9 PM at 2695 State St, Carlsbad, CA.

TGIF Aug 14: Tinsley Ellis

by The Editors on August 11, 2009

Tinsleyellisheader.Jpg

Last summer’s Tinsley Ellis show was cancelled by the San Diego County Department of Heath after officials found a bird that tested positive for the West Nile Virus. This year, we’re hoping nothing stands in the way of what may be the hardest rocking nights of the entire TGIF Jazz In The Park as Ellis drowns Calavera Hills Park in his own brand of southern fried blues, tonight August 14, 2009 from 6-8 PM.

Tinsley Ellis sings and plays with the energy and soul of all the great Southern musicians who have come before him. Ellis attacks his music with rock power and blues feeling, following in the tradition of Deep South musical heroes Duane Allman, Freddie King, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. His live shows feature extended fretwork filled with melodic and rhythmic experimentation, in the spirit of jam bands like his friends Widespread Panic and The Allman Brothers. Atlanta Magazine declared Ellis “the most significant blues artist to emerge from Atlanta since Blind Willie McTell.
