Monthly Art walk to be held the last Thursday of each month in Carlsbad Village

Carlsbad, Ca 7/17/2009: Carlsbad Village Association (CVA) presents Thursdays on the Coast (formerly ArtSurf); a free community visual and performing art walk being held the last Thursday of each month throughout summer in the Village of Carlsbad. Thursdays on the Coast will celebrate its inaugural season and opening night on Thursday, July 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The evening will include original art in Carlsbad Village’s permanent galleries as well as, village merchants acting as temporary “phantom” galleries. The event will host local and regional artists displaying their work throughout the Village, live art demonstrations, and ongoing theatre performances.

After participating in ArtSurf, Carlsbad Village’s first art walk, Robert Broughton, owner, The Perfect Frame on Roosevelt Street is continuing his participation in the program saying, “The CVA’s Thursdays on the Coast is the most exciting and bold new venture that I have seen in my 25 years as a Village merchant. I am thrilled and very proud to be an active participant.”

George “Shukata” Willis, a nationally award winning Indian jeweler, Carlsbad Village resident and longstanding Art Commissioner for the City of Carlsbad, is “…proud and happy the CVA is spearheading this art event for artisans in the area and drawing well deserved recognition to the Village.”

Uhler concurs: “Art feeds the spirit and whenever you bring art to a community it is very uplifting.”

Self-guided walking maps will be provided at all participating venues in time for the July 30th opening night and will be available through the end of August, when Thursdays on the Coast returns with a new lineup of artists and galleries on Thursday, August 27th.
