The Forum Christmas Tree Lights Up Friday

by The Editors on November 21, 2007

026

Sure, it’s a mall. And the reason they’re having a Christmas Tree Lighting at all is to get you into the parking lot because once you’re there chances are you’ll buy something. But in the spirit of the season let’s just ignore that for a moment and think about how nice it will be to bundle up the kids, hop in the sleigh and slide on over to The Forum Shopping Center at 1923 Calle Barcelona in Carlsbad where, according to the North County Times, you can enjoy “children’s crafts, complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides, music, and visits with Santa. Mr. Claus plans to light the tree at 7 p.m.”

The Forum is even taking donations that will be used toward San Diego fire relief efforts. ‘Tis the season to kick off Christmas at the mall. The party starts at 5 PM on Black Friday November 23, 2007.

Fall Carlsbad Street Faire and Junk Show

by The Editors on November 4, 2007

Sf 2

We rolled to the Carlsbad Street Faire this morning with the intention of getting some photos of Carlsbadistan in full effect. But after walking the jam-packed, crowded streets for about 30 minutes surrounded by a mob of strangers (where do these people come from?) we completely lost focus and found ourselves instead struggling against the flow in search of an exit.

Eventually we made it out. Now upon reflection in the peace of our own home, it seems like each year the event becomes a little less “faire” and a little more “swap meet.” Sure, there’s the Kiwanis Club’s pancake breakfast and the Scripps flu shots, but where were all the pan flautists? Then again, maybe our mood was over-influenced by the time change and the overcast skies.

Here’s what the San Diego Union Tribune and North County Times had to say about the 33rd Annual Faire. What did you think? Let us know in the comments.

Didn’t We Just Have A Carlsbad Village Faire?

by The Editors on November 2, 2007

Street Fair2

Sorry we didn’t warn everyone about this earlier: this Sunday, November 4, 2007 is the fall Carlsbad Village Street Faire. Not only is it a great reason to stroll the streets of the Village and check out amazing home appliances, clever crafts, and Aztec pan flautists, it’s also the easiest, most painless place to get your annual flu shot. And please do. We don’t want you getting the rest of us sick.

Carlsbad Farmers’ Market Reminder

by The Editors on October 21, 2007

Famers Mkt

While strolling through The Village Saturday morning we rolled into the twice weekly Carlsbad Farmers’ Market that is held in the parking lot on at 2930 Roosevelt Street between Grand Avenue and Carlsbad Village Drive. The market features delicious produce including the best tomatoes we’ve ever tasted (thanks for the samples) as well as fresh salsa, hand-made tortilla chips, locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, and a large assortment of fresh flowers.

We all know it exists and that it’s been there for a while, however, it’s good every once in a while to refresh the memory with an in-person visit. The Farmers’ Markets are held “Rain or Shine” every Wednesday 1pm -5pm and Saturday 9am-1pm. Mom was right: fresh food is good food.

Carlsbadistan Has Fine Food Flavor

by The Editors on October 16, 2007

Some evenings when we don’t get the right table at our favorite Carlsbadistan restaurant we end up walking to three of four eateries before settling on the right one. On October 21, 2007 from 3 to 6 PM the Carlsbad Village Business Association is encouraging people to restaurant hop as they present the fourth annual Flavors Of The Village.

Take a stroll through the Village of Carlsbad and enjoy samples of the most delicious menu items from the best restaurants in the Village. . . The Village will be alive with live music, great food, wine and champagne, and desserts served at select Village Merchants. . . Gather a group of friends and family and enjoy a great day in the Village.

Carlsbadistan restaurants involved include several of our favorite places: Vigilucci’s Cucina Italiana, Fidel’s, Le Passage French Bistro (the best lunch in North County), Pizza Port Carlsbad Brewery, Fresco Trattoria & Bar, Knockout Pizzeria, KoKo Beach, and a couple of our not so favorite places. For tickets visit one of the participating businesses or call 760/434-2553.
