The City of Carlsbad’s William D. The 2015 Cannon Invitational is a unique combination of artwork by five San Diego County artists, designed to appeal to a broad audience by featuring several areas of interest. The artists selected by the Cannon Gallery’s Curator of Exhibitions Karen McGuire from the artists featured in the 2013 Juried Biennial exhibition include:

· Dan Adams, painter, San Diego
· David Hewitt, sculptor, San Diego
· Michelle Montjoy, mixed-media and installation artist, Oceanside
· Leslie Nemour, painter, San Diego
· Peggy Wiedemann, fiber artist, San Diego

“Since the William D. Cannon Art Gallery opened its doors in 1999, we have shown the work of hundreds of local artists in our juried exhibitions,” said McGuire. “These exhibitions are eclectic presentations of a variety of media, styles and artists. But artists usually have only one or two works included in a juried exhibition – enough to whet the appetite perhaps but not quite enough to get a full appreciation of their work. In 2004, we made the annual juried exhibition a biennial event, with an invitational exhibition presented in the alternating years. It’s a privilege to share the work of these five talented artists in more depth with the community.”

Operated by the City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office, the Cannon Art Gallery is a focal point for arts and culture in San Diego’s North County, offering a broad range of exhibitions, school and family programs, gallery tours, lectures and publications. The gallery is located at 1775 Dove Lane off El Camino Real and is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free. For information on gallery programs, contact the William D. Cannon Art Gallery at 760-602-2021, or visit www.carlsbadca.gov/arts.
