The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is apparently happy to announce the launch of their entirely redesigned website.
The new, clean look offers improved navigation and better organization, adding to the already outstanding aspects of the Web site, such as the business directory, which is the most utilized feature. The site also has a new section for attractions and a new calendar that makes it easier to find and register for events, workshops and seminars hosted by the chamber.
The site was designed and built by Carlsbadistan based Lynch Interactive and we have to agree that Jeff Lynch and his crew did a great job getting a lot of information into the site, not to mention putting some social media connections up front and center. We’ve always had this thing against training wheels. It comes from seeing kids on the sea wall on bikes that are far to big for them leaning over all sideways on one trainer completely oblivious to the fact that one day they are going to have to learn to balance.
If kids are going to be on training wheels they should be on a trike. That’s why we think these Prince Lionheart Balance Bike ($89.99), available at Geppetto’s Toys, is the perfect Christmas gift for two and three-year-olds.
For starters, the Balance Bike looks totally cool. Beyond that, it’s a wonderful way to ready your child for his first pedal bicycle. For now, he will master the art of balance on this great little starter bike, made of 100% birch wood, with 12″ rubber tires, solid rubber handgrips and a padded, adjustable-height seat. The “look-what-I-can-do” expression on his face will be priceless.
We know why The Forum Carlsbad has free horse-drawn carriage rides and it doesn’t bother us at all because we can visit a mall without buying anything and we often do. That said the Always and Forever Carriage Company will be offering free holiday carriage rides every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas at The Forum Carlsbad.
And, yes, the ride is through a crowded shopping mall, but it’s still fun and most importantly it’s free. While you’re there stop in and see the most real Santa Claus we’ve seen. Real beard, real old, real Santa Claus. He’s sitting next to the Christmas tree by Lululemon (11 AM to 4 PM Saturdays and Sundays until Christmas).
Carlsbadistan based consumer electronics company Digital Group Audio’sLivespeakr for the Apple iPhone turns any Apple iPod, iPod Touch, or iPhone into a miniature boombox with it’s patent pending technology.
Sometimes, especially during the holidays, it’s fun to share music, movies, or TV without having to use headphone splitter cables, and that’s why Livespeakr makes a perfect gift this Christmas.
This amazing new speaker system features a set of speakers that fold-up and store conveniently behind the iPhone when they are not in use allowing for maximum portability. When the unit is stored (or hidden) it piggy-backs on the iPhone or iPod Touch making it portable enough to fit in your pocket for on-the-go portability. The unique style of the Livespeakr™ is visually stunning featuring bold design inspired by modern art.
Livespeakr is currently on sale online for $79.99 and comes in black or white designs that go perfectly with any Apple iPod/iPhone product. Follow the jump to see the
New York Press writer Ethan Epstein spends the day at a “You Can Heal Your Life” conference and gives the full breakdown on Carlsbadistan-based self-help guru Louise Hay and how Suze Orman plays into the business.
Hay House is a financial powerhouse. Although Suze Orman and guru Deepak Chopra may be the only Hay House figures that are household names, in 2008 the company grossed over $100 million in sales of its books, CDs and event tickets. This is but a fraction of the larger self-help industrial complex: Forbes has reported that in 2008, “Americans spent $11 billion on self-improvement books, CDs, seminars, coaching and stress management programs.”
Busch Entertainment Corp., the second-largest entertainment park operator in the United States after Walt Disney Co. with 25,000 employees and 25 million visitors a year, is now known as SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. . . The deal includes three SeaWorld parks in Orlando, Fla.; San Antonio, Texas; and San Diego, Calif.; and two Busch Gardens parks in Tampa, Fla., and Williamsburg, Va. It also includes Discovery Cove and Aquatica in Orlando; Sesame Place near Philadelphia, and water parks Adventure Island in Tampa and Water Country USA in Williamsburg.
We first mentioned this back in September. Guess this means we can say goodbye to cheap locals season passes at SeaWorld and hello to biometric profiling at Legoland. Epic.
Nothing says clean, understated style like Ben Sherman and if you’re interested getting your guy out of his favorite logo T-shirt and into something a little nicer this Christmas then there is no better place to go than The M Collection on State Street in Carlsbadistan.
There, among their large selection of fashion forward men’s and women’s clothing, we found the Ben Sherman Bullfinch (pictured right) for $89.99. This long sleeve plaid woven features flap pockets and a point collar that leads to a button front closure and ends in logo embroidery. Throw in a pair of pants and know that he’ll be looking good for 2010.
Warren Miller’s Dynasty takes you on a breathtaking global tour of China, Alaska, Norway, Colorado, British Columbia, and more. Join legendary WME athlete Chris Anthony as he treks into China’s interior on a search for the birthplace of skiing; follow mountaineering marvel Chris Davenport to Norway’s highest peaks; reunite with the pride of the Midwestern ski community, Luke and Adam Schrab; and catch a rare glimpse at historic clips from Warren Miller Entertainment’s vault of vintage footage.
The fact that the real Warren Miller has nothing to do with these movies doesn’t seem to slow anyone down. It’s a brand and it’s a good time. Tickets for the show are $18 each and can be purchased at the box office or at the San Marcos Sport Chalet.
Ringing in the Holiday Season is never more fun than by gathering together with friends and neighbors for the annual Carlsbadistan Rotary Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at The Village Faire in the Village of Carlsbadistan.
Beginning at 2 PM on Sunday December 6, 2009, the Village Faire will play host to an afternoon of holiday events. And listen up kids: Santa will come flying in, not in a sleigh pulled by reindeer, but on a bright red firetruck!
Crafts, singing, dancing and other performances will keep the whole family entertained all afternoon. There are even reports that Mayor Bud Lewis will make a rare personal appearance.
The City of Carlsbadistan has announced yesterday that they have hired John W. Coates as director of the City’s Parks & Rec department. He will start January 4, 2010. The position has been open since July 2009 when Brian Albright resigned.
Coates brings more than 30 years of professional experience in the field, including serving as the director of community services for the City of Santee, a position he has held since 2002. . . Other experience includes serving as the director of parks and recreation for the City of Roanoke, Va.; the superintendent of recreation maintenance for the City of Norfolk, Va.; and a parks district supervisor for the City of Virginia Beach, Va.
Coates only recent lapse in judgement appears to be that he lives in Encinitas, but we won’t hold that against him. Follow the jump for all the details. [click to continue…]
