OAK + elixir Enters A New Relm

by The Editors on May 9, 2017

If you’ve been by State St. in the heart of Carlsbad Village recently you may have noticed that Relm, the wine bar, has closed. Apparently, it was closed in order to reopen as OAK+elixir. Here’s what the owners are saying:

While we really enjoyed Relm during it’s time, we’re looking forward to a new season. But don’t worry, the wine bar is remaining! During the closure we’ve rejuvenated the space and reimagined the wine and food menus, and we can’t wait for you to experience the new O+E.

OAK + elixir will celebrate its grand opening on Friday June 2, 2017 at 6:30 PM. If you like wine, beer, and food (and from the looks of this town everyone does) then drop by and say hello. For the official word from OAK + elixir, please follow the jump.

April 5, 2016 Is Ralph Rubio Day

by The Editors on April 1, 2016

Ralph_RubioThe City of San Diego has named April 5, 2015 Ralph Rubio Day in honor of Carlsbad businessman (and Rubio’s Coastal Grill Co-Founder) Ralph Rubio (right) for “his entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to the community and contributions to the food industry.”

A San Diego State University alumnus, Ralph brought his love of fish tacos to the United States after a college trip to Baja California, Mexico. 33 years after opening the first Rubio’s restaurant – a walk-up fish taco stand in Mission Bay – Rubio’s Coastal Grill has established a passionate fan base throughout the Southwestern United States and has largely been credited for starting the fish taco phenomenon in America. Cited by The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times as the country’s top fish taco expert, Rubio’s Coastal Grill has sold more than 200 million Original Fish Tacos®.

In honor of Ralph Rubio Day, Rubios is offering their original fish taco for $1.75 at all San Diego County Rubio’s Coastal Grill locations (including the location at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets) all day on April 5, 2016. If you’re hungry, you might want to stop by. For the official word from Rubio’s please follow the jump.

The Women Behind The 2016 Taste of Bressi

by The Editors on March 10, 2016

Two Locals Help Kids

Sharone Story and Brisha Cordella (pictured above) found themselves faced with a challenge. As members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad’s board of directors, each were tasked to raise money to support the Club’s impactful youth programming. What they came up with was an event called The 2016 Taste of Bressi.

The 2016 Taste of Bressi will be held on March 19, 2016 from 2-6 pm at the Club’s Bressi Ranch location. “Holding the event at the Clubhouse gives the public a chance to see the facilities available to Carlsbad’s kids. Each guest receives a ‘Clubhouse Pass’ to explore, play games like foosball and ping pong, and enjoy live music while sipping on adult beverages, and nibbling delicious bites,” said Story. “It’s a fun, casual, light-hearted afternoon that everyone 21 and older can enjoy.”

For the official word from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad please follow the jump.

Skye Walker Kicks Off 2016 Carlsbad Art Wall

by The Editors on January 8, 2016

skye_social

The Carlsbad Art Wall at Señor Grubby’s is getting a whole new look on the weekend of January 16, 2016 as Encinitas based artist Skye Walker takes over the east wall of the Carlsbad eatery.

The first 2016 CAW artist Skye Walker will bring his life-long love for illustration, design and mural painting to the CAW with his signature colorful composition of nature and environmentally conscious iconography. Walker found his love for art in his early youth while traveling the country with the family bluegrass band named EarthWalkers. They logged over 2,000 shows nationwide singing about preserving the environment. During this time, Walker’s father taught him the art of lettering and murals. His father was an accomplished sign painter and muralist in the 70’s and 80’s.

The UT Discovers Gaia Gelato

by The Editors on October 19, 2015

2441075_sd_no_me_cn_gelato_008_r900x493

The San Diego Union Tribune has decided to blow the cover on our best kept secret gelato spot in The Village with a profile on Italian cousins Cristina Amoroso and Paola Richard. Their Gaia Gelato located in the Village Faire Shopping Center has been our go-to cold sweets spot since they opened.

The desserts they serve are made in the Italian style, which is denser, creamier and with less sugar than many American-style gelatos. Amoroso has developed more than 60 flavors of gelato, sorbet and granita and introduces new ones each week. To preserve the flavor and texture, gelatos are made in small batches and not sold after 24 hours.

It’s no wonder why their Yelp reviews are off the charts. For the rest of the story please click the link.
