With more than 30 years of experience in the apparel industry, Carlsbad local John Rich is hyper-aware of what is being worn in his community. And although there were plenty of Carlsbad t-shirts, hats and bags, he was hard pressed to find a pair of Carlsbad socks.
“I consider socks to be like a t-shirt for your feet,” joked John aka JR. “I also noticed how much the Carlsbad sign resonated with the community. I saw the void, combined the two ideas, threw in a charitable component, and bam! Carlsbad Socks were born. I’m also proud that we’re putting America back to work one sock at a time, as they are manufactured right here in the USA.”

Tickets are now on sale for the one (partial) day each year when Legoland is arguably worth the price of admission. April 23, 2016 is Carlsbad Day at Legoland thanks to the Carlsbad Educational Foundation. This means that if you buy tickets in advance from the Carlsbad Education Foundation you can get a partial day (1 PM to 8 PM) entry to Legoland for $35. In addition, “a percentage of ticket sales” will help fund “enriching STEM programs” (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) that the Carlsbad Unified School District is apparently unable to provide to the students of our fair city.
In other words, if you’d like to help the Carlsbad Educational Foundation help the students of a school district that can’t figure out how to provide the education Carlsbad kids deserve and visit an overpriced theme park for a reasonable price then please, Click here to purchase your tickets.
On March 26, 2016 (the day before Easter Sunday) the City of Carlsbad will host their annual EGGstravaganza Spring Festival at the Poinsettia Community Park starting at 10 AM.

Sharone Story and Brisha Cordella (pictured above) found themselves faced with a challenge. As members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad’s board of directors, each were tasked to raise money to support the Club’s impactful youth programming. What they came up with was an event called The 2016 Taste of Bressi.
The 2016 Taste of Bressi will be held on March 19, 2016 from 2-6 pm at the Club’s Bressi Ranch location. “Holding the event at the Clubhouse gives the public a chance to see the facilities available to Carlsbad’s kids. Each guest receives a ‘Clubhouse Pass’ to explore, play games like foosball and ping pong, and enjoy live music while sipping on adult beverages, and nibbling delicious bites,” said Story. “It’s a fun, casual, light-hearted afternoon that everyone 21 and older can enjoy.”

The Carlsbad High School Lancer Dancers just attended the World School Cheer/Dance Competition in Orlando, Florida January 30 – 31, 2016. Did they bring it? Yes, they brought it and also came home with a world title in the varsity hip hop division. Yes, hip hop.
“Our girls are so proud to have earned the title of 2016 World Champs,” said
the team’s coach, Laura Nares. “All the hard work and practice they put into
preparing for these two competitions has paid off in a big way.”
Marylou Flanders has been named Volunteer of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad at a luncheon held November 12, 2015.
“Marylou is a board member and special event volunteer; the word ‘no’ is not part of her vocabulary,” said Club CEO Brad Holland. “She produces our promotional materials, secures incredible auction items, and has rallied her employer to be a corporate partner for the Club. She gives freely of her time and talent, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize her efforts!”

Blending holiday spirit with a bit of western history, the City of Carlsbad will celebrate the season at its Holiday at the Rancho event Saturday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park.
For the past 11 years Boar’s Crossing owner Ralph Burnette has held a Fish Fry Fundraiser in August to help raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. Over the years he has donated more than $100,000 to the clubs.
The event brings the community together on a summer afternoon to support the Club while enjoying excellent fish tacos. Raising at least $10,000 annually, much of the donation comes straight from Ralph’s coffers – with more than $100,000 being donated to the Club over the years. . . “What I enjoy most is taking the money to the Club staff, and going on a shopping spree with them,” said Burnette. “They make a list, and get items that are needed but not in their budget. This year’s items included a flat screen in the lobby used for announcements, plenty of sports equipment, and even a computer.”
