The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad’s Village Clubhouse was transformed into a truly scary haunted house just in time for Halloween, thanks in part to sweat equity provided courtesy of Reef.
“Here at Reef, each employee is allotted up to five paid days off annually to volunteer at a charity of our choosing,” explained Reef Marketing Coordinator Jackie Hall. “We zeroed in on the Boys & Girls Club. The option of building a haunted house as a volunteer activity is a little out of the norm, and it sounded like it would be a blast!”

On August 2-4, 2014 Carlsbad’s soccer retailer soccerloco is hosting the 34th Annual San Diego soccerloco Surf Cup. And yeah, it’s a pretty big deal.
The 2014 tournament will host over 400 college coaches and scouts. This is not only one of the most sought-after title accolades in youth soccer but it is also one of the largest, with over a hundred different clubs flying in and traveling to the beautifully polished Del Mar polo fields. One of the competing clubs at the event this year stems from Carlsbad’s very own community, the Carlsbad United FC. The most important aspect of this tournament is not necessarily about winning but it is more so about building teamwork skills and networking with some of the best within the local soccer community.
Soccerloco’s President Jon Lococo is proud to be associated with the event. “This event is a big part of the San Diego community culture and we are really looking forward to seeing all the clubs come out and play,” says Lococo.

On Saturday night, July 19, 2014, the City of Carlsbad is giving parents the chance to drop the kids off at the new Alga Norte pool and have two hours to themselves.
Splash Bash is designed for children 8 and older, but kids younger than 8 are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Attendees will spend an evening playing on giant inflatables, walking on water in giant water balls, diving off of diving boards and dancing to music under the lights poolside. Tickets are $10 per person. One child, age 3 and under, may be admitted free with a paying adult.
We know how great two hours can be. It’s not long enough for a movie, but definitely long enough to get dinner or something. For more info, click the link.

Each year the Vigilucci’s Beach Bocce World Championships raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. And each year they get a local artist to create an original piece for the competition. This year, Encinitas cartoonist Jim Whiting has created the art work.
Jim Whiting began his career as a magazine cartoonist, creating chuckles for such well respected national publications as The Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, and Look magazine. After a short stint at a successful NYC advertising agency, Jim began to sell his original cartoons to the aforementioned clients and over 75 additional publications. Mr. Whiting has created countless illustrations for books, magazines, and presentations. He currently lives in Encinitas with his wife, Bernita, and Bella, their dog.
