Futurist and best-selling author Joel Kotkin will speak the morning of April 15, 2008 at the first “Momentum Breakfast” hosted by the Leadership North County Alumni Association at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa.
Kotkin will explain the powerful trends shaping urban and suburban development today and in the future not just locally but around the country and around the world. Kotkin’s most recent book, ‘The City: A Global History’ studied what cities since the beginning of recorded history through to the present needed in order to become great. Kotkin found that healthy, reliable infrastructure such as roads, schools, medicine, food and water supply were the best indicators of future success.
We’re hoping all the members of the City Council will attend this breakfast. Tickets are $30 each (including food) and can be purchased on the Lncalumni.org website. More details after the jump.

Maybe it’s because high school was not exactly the high point of our lives that we find all this Carlsbad High School historical stuff so weird. Seriously, aren’t you supposed to move out after you graduate? That’s why we laughed when we saw that:
Graduates of all years from Carlsbad High School are invited to participate Saturday in a parade of period cars commemorating the migration of students 50 years ago from then Oceanside-Carlsbad High School to their first day of classes at the brand new $1.1 million Carlsbad High.
So how was the parade? If you went, please let us know in the comments. And then, maybe explain why you’re still hanging around your high school like David Wooderson in Dazed and Confused.

This morning at 8 AM more than 2,500 of Carlsbadistan’s youngest runners (aged 3 through 12) busted off the starting line in the Keebler Kids Marathon Mile at Legoland. The one-mile loop through the Legoland park as part of the weekend-long festivities of the Carlsbad Marathon. Everyone who participated got a gold medal.
Though we do not condone the seedy, underground, baby-racing scene, there was also a “diaper dash” for babies who still travel on all fours. For more on the weekend activities surrounding the Carlsbad Marathon click the link.

When the 2008 Carlsbad Marathon starts at 7:30 AM on Sunday morning 10,000 runners of comically diverse shapes and sizes will be pounding the streets of Carlsbadistan.
After the starter’s gun goes off, Marathoners will head for the coast passing the Buena Vista Lagoon through the village of Carlsbad to Carlsbad Boulevard (Highway 101). You’ll head south on the 101 to Palomar Airport Road (PAR). After a 3 mile trip inland on you’ll return to the coast and again head south on 101 to a quick U-turn near La Costa Avenue back up the cost to the finish line.
We’ll be out watching along the course. If you’re running let us know how it goes.

Barak Obama has inspired so many already and we need to make sure as many people as possible hear his words. Barack Obama IS the voice of change for our nation. I’d like to get a group of supporters together to go spead the word of Obama.
