TGIF 2: The Dustbowl Revival

by The Editors on June 28, 2016

Carlsbad’s 2016 TGIF Concerts In The Park series has one the best lineups ever, but the hippest, brightest, raddest highlight of the summer is going down this Friday night (July 1, 2016) as The Dustbowl Revival lights up Stagecoach park with their bluegrass, hot jazz, pre-war, American roots orchestra.

Here’s how the LA Times describes the band:

A nine-piece band replete with tuba, washboard, accordion, fiddle, mandolin, trumpet and guitar joyously pumped out early 20th century standards and original tunes that would have sounded utterly at home within the hallowed confines of Preservation Hall in New Orleans’ French Quarter. “

We usually say this once a summer, but here it is: if you only go to one TGIF Concert In The Park make it The Dustbowl Revival.  You will be glad you did. Music starts at 6 PM. Remember to bring low-back chairs, snacks, and feet ready to move. Stagecoach Community Park is located at 3420 Camino de los Coches, Carlsbad, California.

Gloria Muriel On The Carlsbad Art Wall

by The Editors on May 27, 2016

CarlsbadArtWall_GloriaMuriel

On June 4-5, 2016 the Carlsbad Art Wall at 377 Carlsbad Village Drive, in Carlsbad, California will be home to new mural by San Diego based muralist Gloria Muriel.

Through her art, Gloria creates a portal to her own cosmic dreams and fantasies. She shows us a unique and magical world that exists beyond our reality—a universe in complete harmony with nature. Gloria’s intention is to awaken hearts and open minds to the raw novelty of the present moment. Meditation helps guide her to see the divine presence found in everything that exists. . . Gloria’s murals are often based around the geometries of a face, with lines and patterns borrowed from the natural world — elements of flowing water and sublime vegetation suggest an abundance of growing, healing, and evolving life. Her murals can be found in Mexicali, Tijuana, Guadalajara, Mexico City, San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami.
