The economy may be down, but it looks like more people are Jazzercising than ever as Carlsbad’s Jazzercise has had it’s best year in the company’s 39 years of operation.
System wide sales topped 93 million for the past fiscal year, marking a 9% increase over last year’s totals. The increase marked the seventh consecutive year Jazzercise has posted system wide sales growth, including company divisions of Jazzertogs fitness apparel and award-winning JM Digitalworks. Jazzercise has more than 7,500 instructors teaching 32,000 classes weekly in all 50 states and 32 countries worldwide.
It’s amazing how much money can be made by charging women to jump around to music. Crazy.

Looks like those who spoke out at recent area code hearings were heard as California Public Utilities Commission Judge Maribeth Bushey has ruled to allow current 760 area code holders to keep their area code while new numbers will have the 442 area code, according to a story on 10news.com.
The full five-member commission is scheduled to vote on Bushey’s ruling on Oct. 16. . . . Bushey presided over public hearings on the proposed change earlier this month in Carlsbad and Victorville.
New numbers get the new area code. Hard to believe that something so logical would require so much legal action.

Today, the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa is celebrating Global Out-of-Office Day to promote their new Link@Sheraton experienced with Microsoft. Eight Carlsbad businesses will reportedly spend the day “working” out on the Palm Court Lawn outside the hotel and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Our guess at the businesses involved? Real Estate. . . since sitting out on the lawn is about all they can do these days.
Designed as a social destination, the Link@Sheraton invites guests to interact with each other while they check their email, research local attractions and even print boarding passes using free Wi-Fi and Internet-enabled computer stations.
We’re guessing this is just a new Sheraton business center, but the thought of business people working “out on the lawn” has peaked our interest. We think we’ll roll over later and see how many “executives” have survived.

It’s all Star Wars at Legoland on Saturday September 13 -14, 2008 as the 501st Legion of Rebel Forces storms Legoland. While normally we wouldn’t recommend encouraging your children to hang out with grown men dressed like Storm Troopers and Wookies, we’re pretty sure this will be a fun day at the park for all Star Wars fans.
Legoland guests need not travel to a galaxy far, far away to take part in out-of-this-world fun activities like the Droid Hunt, video game battles, trivia competitions and Clone Trooper scavenger hunts. Whether they favor the Dark Side or support Luke Skywalker’s cause, guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite Star Wars characters and participate in daily costume contests for a chance to win prizes valued at more than $500!
These are definitely the droids you are looking for. Follow the jump for all the details.

When it comes to impressing a date with a big night out in Carlsbadistan, there are very few dining choices. While Vigiluccis Seafood & Steakhouse may be a clear favorite for many with its coastal location, our vote goes to the La Costa Resort & Spa’s Blue Fire Grill.
The spacious outdoor patio faces La Costa’s extensive main courtyard, a bar and two large interior dining rooms give Blue Fire Grill a modern and quintessential California feel. The outdoor patio, complete with the rustic Blue Fire pits, is often host to world music and live entertainment, but if you are interested in a festive meal it’s the choice place to sit and enjoy one of the resturant’s signature cocktails. Catch it on a quiet evening, however, and it’s the site of a beautiful romantic dinner under the stars. Inside, diners are wowed under Timber ceilings while facing a handblown glass fireplace wall.

Carlsbadistan’s favorite nanocrystalline structured alloy company PowerMetal Technologies, Inc. has just announced a “long-term strategic alliance and an equity investment from DuPont Engineering Polymers, according to a story on Nanowerk.com.
The investment by DuPont Engineering Polymers is an exciting step in our company’s evolution,” said Edward Hughes, President and CEO of PowerMetal. “DuPont Engineering Polymers has built a long-standing and well-deserved reputation as a leading provider of innovative engineering polymer solutions that have impacted nearly every aspect of our society. We think this will be a very successful alliance.”
When if comes to materials, DuPont proabably isn’t the worst partner a company can have. One word, my boy: nanocrystalline structured alloy.

Two male Oriental fruit flies (Bactrocera dorsalis) have been spotted in Carlsbad, according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.
In Carlsbad, state agriculture workers will begin eradicating the Oriental fruit fly Friday within a 8.7-square-mile area of where the flies were trapped, using pesticide-laced food for the insect; people are urged to not move fruits and vegetables out of the area.
But that’s not the biggest news. The larger issue is that 1,181-square miles of San Diego County has been “placed under quarantine for the Asian citrus psyllid” a.k.a. Diaphorina citri.
