State Parks Renting Out Tamarack Beach?

Tamarack Private

Is the California State Parks trying to close those budget gaps by renting out our Tamarack Beach parking lot to out-of-state companies for private parties?

A “corporation from Tennessee” has reportedly flown out their 1000 plus employees to stay at the La Costa Resort & Spa this week. All day Monday and possibly Tuesday they have purchased the right to close the parking lot for their event.

Guess the State of California has to make money somehow. Wonder if this “Tennessee” corporation is going to serve alcohol on the beach at their party? Out of glass containers? You know, in violation of California State Law.

It looked like they had drinks tonight. Couldn’t tell if there was glass or not. A whole bunch of folks, dressed mostly in white, hopping off busses, looking happy to be there. I couldn’t tell for sure, but it looked like the lot was closed all day for just the caterers. The busloads arrived around 6:00ish. I’m not sure why they needed the lot all day for just the evening. Or why the state would let them do it. I hope Carlsbad gets some cash from the transaction above the hotel tax and vacation spending. I also hope renting out the lot doesn’t become a regular occurrence.

Yes the lot was closed to the general public @ 7:00 am 9/13 as I was turned away with my CA pass when I arrived for my morning run. Thankfully they did allow CHS Surf P.E through. The lot was also closed about 2 weeks ago. The CA State Lifeguard reporting to duty that day at Tamarack was advised they would have to park elsewhere because the lot was reserved for a film crew. I can only hope the State is putting the money directly back to benefit our State Park System which has suffered from budget cuts and have also resulted in several pay cuts for our CA State Lifeguards.
