by The Editors on January 11, 2013

Brewbies Posterfinal

On February 8-9, 2013 Pizza Port Carlsbad will host its 4th Annual Brewbies Festival. Each year the festival brings in specialty pink beer from renowned breweries and holds a raffle/silent auction with items donated from Reef, Black Box, Electra, Bella D’ora, Bakerloo, Honest Tea, and many local restaurants. All the money raised goes directly to the Keep A Breast Foundation. So far Brewbies Beer Fest has raised over $50,000 for the breast cancer awareness organization. Nice to know that it is possible to drink beer for a good cause.

The event runs Friday February 8th from 5 to 10 PM and Saturday, February 9, 2013 from Noon to 5 PM. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door, but as the event has sold out every time it’s been held, it best to purchase tickets online by clicking the link.

Witch Creek Winery’s Groupon Deal

by The Editors on October 13, 2010

Witch-Creek-WineryCarlsbadistan’s Witch Creek Winery currently has a deal on the dogpiling bargain site Groupon.com. The current offer is $35 worth of wine and wine tastings for $15 (5-7 in store tastings). Not bad at all.

The way Groupon works is that a deal is presented to the public, along with a minimum number of buyers required to turn the deal live. If that “tipping point” is not reached, then no one buys anything. If the minimum is reached, then the deal goes live and everyone gets a piece of the discount.

In Witch Creek’s case they said they’d only do the bargain if 100 people bought in. And buy in they did. So far it appears that Witch Creek has sold 630 of their $15 wine deals. Seems to be working quite alright.

We did a little recon over the weekend and found O’Sullivan’s the place to be for their Pre St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Warm Up session: green hair and all. Looks like everyone is ready for the real thing on Wednesday when The Clay Colton Band and Paddy’s Pig will play “lively renditions of traditional Irish songs, reels, jigs, ballads and drinking songs.”

Pizza Port Wins 9 Medals At Beer Festival

by The Editors on September 29, 2009

Uti1005392 T350Carlsbadistan’s Pizza Port kicked serious ass last weekend at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado. Pizza Port nabbed nine medals in all, seven of them from the Carlsbad location including Large Brewpub of the Year, according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Brewpub ops director Jeff Bagby (pictured right) was pleased.

“I kind of prepared myself for the worst,” said Jeff Bagby, director of brewpub operations for the Pizza Ports in Carlsbad, Solana Beach and San Clemente. “I was prepared to come home with nothing.”

Congrats to Bagby and the Pizza Port team. We know the beer is good, but it’s even nicer to know it’s the best beer in America.

Rowdy Rookie Cop Resigns

by The Editors on August 24, 2009

053109 28The rookie San Diego Police officer who took her gun out of her purse and waved it around at Carlsbadistan’s Hennessey’s Tavern on the evening of August 14, 2009 has decided to hang up her badge for good according to a story on NBCLosAngeles.com.

Christine Thurston, 23, resigned Thursday according to a San Diego police spokesperson. . . “I think that she made the choice in the best interest of the community and the department,” police chief William Lansdowne said of her resignation. “I wish her the best.”

Thurston still faces the one misdemeanor charge of being drunk in public, but since she didn’t threaten anyone with her gun she’s not being charged with brandishing a weapon.
